Truex Charged With Disorderly Intoxication

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion Martin Truex Jr. was charged with disorderly intoxication after an officer saw him urinate on his car, authorities said.

A Volusia County Beach Patrol officer observed Truex, 26, urinating in a parking garage Saturday morning, according to a police report. Capt. Rich Gardner approached Truex and said, "I hope that's worth 100 bucks," the report said.

According to Gardner, Truex responded with, "It is worth 100 bucks," and he held out a $100 bill.

"I got a ticket for doing something stupid," Truex told The Daytona Beach News-Journal on Monday.

"It was a stupid mistake and I'll never do it again."

Gardner repeatedly asked Truex to place his hands behind his back so he could handcuff him before Truex agreed, according to the report. Gardner smelled alcohol on Truex's breath and charged him with disorderly intoxication.

After testing on Thursday afternoon, some team members and I went to a local restaurant that evening. We had a few drinks, I was not intoxicated and we had a designated driver. Afterwards, while I was standing by our SUV, a man walked up to me in the parking deck. He didn't immediately identify himself as a police officer. I was taken a little off guard, but once I realized he was an officer, I fully cooperated. There was no resistance on my part in any way. When the group approached a silver Chevy Suburban, Capt. Rich Gardner noticed that Truex began urinating on the right front tire of the SUV. At that point Gardner, sitting in an unmarked patrol car, called out: "I hope that's worth 100 bucks," a Beach Patrol report states. According to Gardner; Truex then responded, "It is worth 100 bucks," and he held out a $100 bill. Not amused, Gardner told the 26-year-old race car driver that the matter was not a joke, then asked for Truex's identification. The officer also said he doesn't take bribes. After a few more words exchanged, Gardner attempted to handcuff Truex, only to meet with resistance, the report states. But in the end, Truex was not charged with urinating in public. Because of all the talking that was done, Gardner smelled a hint of alcohol on Truex's breath and charged him with disorderly intoxication. Truex, who is employed by Dale Earnhardt Inc., denied resisting Gardner, but he did recall urinating on the tire of his vehicle. The only reason I called BS is because his story has changed all day long. His statement contradicts his quotes from every other article posted on the matter. He's just making himself look worse by issuing the statement that he was "just standing by the SUV."

I don't think it was the alcohol's fault... the alcohol didn't make him keep drinking... it didn't say "hey drink me" and then "hey pee on a car"... I think what makes alcohol "bad" is when people don't know how to drink responsibly... I think it's funny that he said "we had a designated driver"... hmm great... so apparently because you have a DD that means you get to get sloshed... it's not the alcohol it's self... it's the people who drink it... it's important to know your limits and drink responsibly but to drink to get drunk... that's just dumb

Does this apply to all people no but in most cases... it's not the alcohol's fault... it's people who don't know how to use it responsibly... just like a car... the car doesn't crash it's self... it's people who don't know how to use it... I guess it's a bad analogy but it works. imo.
