Title: Busch not returning as title sponsor

NeverBeenThawed - December 18, 2006 07:17 PM (GMT)
Anheuser-Busch will no longer serve as title sponsor of NASCAR's #2 series after 2007, Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal reports.

Anheuser-Busch's contract with NASCAR for the NASCAR Busch Series comes to an end after 2007, and NASCAR officials say the cost to sponsor the series will go up.

Tony Ponturo, Anheuser-Busch's vice president of global media and sports marketing, told the SBJ that it was his company's decision to withdraw from the sponsorship.

SBJ reports that industry sources are estimating the new sponsorship deal could be worth more than $30 million a year, which is three times what Anheuser-Busch is paying.(SceneDaily.com)(12-18-2006)

According to the SportsBusiness Journal, Subway, Wal-Mart and Samsung "are expected to make strong plays for the title deal."(FoxSports.com)(12-18-2006)

Go Samsung! *kicks WalMart*

Princess_Sara400 - December 18, 2006 08:14 PM (GMT)
The Walmart series? Uh no Samsung sounds better of the three

KaseyKahneFanForLife938 - December 18, 2006 08:21 PM (GMT)
I vote Samsung! Stupid Wal-Mart!

NeverBeenThawed - December 18, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
I tend to not shop at wal-mart a lot but I'm not anti-wal-mart either. I think that they do a decent service anyways. And my family is very pro-wal-mart seeing as that is their closest real store anyways, at an hour away.

Katie9 - December 18, 2006 08:47 PM (GMT)
Samsung please!

I just have issues with how they run their business is all. They're kinda shady. But by no means am I begrudging anybody a shopping experience, either.

I can't believe your parents closest store is an hour. The mind, she is boggled. (Clearly I don't have a ton of experience with very rural areas. :))

NeverBeenThawed - December 18, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
Yup, one is in Sterling, about an hour north and west of here, and the other is in Fort Morgan, about an hour west and slightly south of here. Northeastern Colorado is very rural.

I think the Subway Series sounds kind of cool. Although the first thing that comes to mind when I hear that is the interleague-play series between the Mets and Yankees. hahaha Either that or Samsung would be fine with me. I love Wal-Mart, but it just doesn't have a good ring to it.

Melissa - December 19, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
The Samsung Series sounds pretty cool.

The Subway Series is kinda lame but could be worse.

The Wal-Mart Series, NO THAT IS JUST SCREWED UP.

callie - December 19, 2006 02:43 AM (GMT)
WTF No Subway or walmart

carriekins - December 19, 2006 03:28 AM (GMT)
Dude, if they did the Subway Series, the Power Rankings on Nascar.com would be ALL ABOUT SUBWAY! More than they already are. :lmao

:nono thats just wrong!!

K Bear - December 19, 2006 06:01 AM (GMT)
There's only one Subway series and that's Yankees/Mets.

NWfan938 - December 19, 2006 07:35 AM (GMT)
I'm with most of you on this one: Samsung all the way!

AmeriKahneGirl924 - December 19, 2006 11:45 AM (GMT)
I love Walmart, so I would be for that.

Scrapbookgirl9 - December 19, 2006 04:17 PM (GMT)
oh ick, no Walmart.........

I shop there, but only when I have too.......

and I thought Walmart didn't want to sponsor a car at one time cause "it would affect their low prices if they spent that much sponsoring a car" and now they want to sponsor a whole series........interesting

KKAngel9 - December 19, 2006 06:03 PM (GMT)
Interesting. It will be interesting to see who ends up being the title sponsor though it will be weird for it to not be the Busch series anymore. I like the way it sounds.

Princess_Sara400 - December 19, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
You know what they should do. Go old school and called it the Nascar grand national series but say presented by_______. I'm sorry but The Samsung Series, the Subway series and most definitely the Walmart Series does not sound right

That's what I was thinking.

K Bear - December 20, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
I guess the Monster deal fell through.

~*Diana*~ - December 20, 2006 05:11 AM (GMT)
Subway series, eh
Samsung series, getting better
Walmart series, yuck

kelly - December 20, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
I think i'm gonna watch the Wal-Mart race today....Thats so lame. I hope it's not that.

AmeriKahneGirl924 - December 20, 2006 11:57 AM (GMT)
Why does everyone hate Walmart so much? Just curious.

carriekins - December 20, 2006 12:06 PM (GMT)
Erica, for me it's their business practices and how they treat their employees. And their stores always seem overcrowded, dirty, and understaffed. It's typically the last place I'll go if I need something.

I totally agree.

I don't hate Wal-mart either, Erica.

K Bear - December 20, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
I don't have a problem with Wal-Mart. I'm a frequent Wal-Mart shopper. My problem with Wal-Mart as a sponsor is the image it portrays.

Krista - December 20, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
Yeah I gotta pick Samsung on this one. The others just don't sound right to me.

AmeriKahneGirl924 - December 21, 2006 11:50 AM (GMT)
Ok, I was just curious. To each his own. :)
