Title: Sauter...or Rudd...To the 88?

NeverBeenThawed - November 25, 2006 05:22 PM (GMT)
More on Sauter to the #88, or will it be Rudd?: The stars appear to have lined up perfectly for Johnny Sauter to drive Robert Yates Racing's #88 Ford Fusion in the Nextel Cup Series next season.

Sauter has the inside track to the only car without a driver in the top 35 in the Nextel Cup owner points, guaranteeing a position in the Daytona 500 and the next four races in 2007.

Yates is also talking to Ricky Rudd, who doesn't want to compete full time. Unless Yates can induce the 50-year-old Rudd into changing his mind -- and it seems unlikely -- the #88 belongs to Sauter. They're the only two drivers under consideration.

I don't think Ricky will come outta retirement full time. I think he enjoys just racing here or racing there... whenever the feeling moves him, so-to-speak.

Personally, I'd rather see Johnny anyways. Not that I don't think Ricky can be competitive on a week-to-week basis, I just think that that's been the general trend of these guys coming out of semi-retirement, or that have race part time schedules. Not to mention I think Johnny is a talented guy who deserves a shot at a cup ride.

Johnny is where we will agree to disagree, Lena.

No me gusta. (On track and off-track. He was a jackass and a half at Stocks for Tots last year.)

I understand.

I don't really care for Johnny, but I'm willing to give him a chance and then I'll decide to like or not like him once he gets in a Cup car. I don't mind him in the Busch series, but we'll have to see what happens when he's in Cup.

Didn't he run Cup once before?? For RCR if I remember correctly right?

racefan9 - November 25, 2006 06:43 PM (GMT)
I think Johnny will get it.

eeehhh...are my thoughts on Johnny, don't really care for him. But I think he'll get it

Goooooooo Johnny!

I think it would be Yates best bet to get Sauter. I highly doubt Ricky will want to come out of retirement and there needs to be a "senior" driver at RYR

Hmmm....I don't really have an opinion one way or another....although I would like to see Ricky back on the circuit again.

Both are great choices to have in that car. Johnny has greatly improved over the year and I wouldnt mind seeing him in that car. Nor do I mind seeing Ricky in that car.
Just me though

See, I'm more concerned with finding out which Mars candy is going to be the sponsor of the car! :lmao

I'm not hugely fond of Johnny........though he has probably grown up some since his first stint in Cup, I don't know if its enough for me to like him. He's come off as a jackass every time I've ever met him, but if he gets it then good luck to him.

And I don't know if I see Ricky coming out of retirement either........but if Johnny is taking the 88, he needs to let the team that was intending to take him Cup racing next year know and make the move.
