Title: Riggs' front tire carrier indefinitely suspended

Katie9 - November 7, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
NASCAR has indefinitely suspended Craig “C.C.” Curione, the front tire carrier for Nextel Cup driver Scott Riggs’ No. 10 Dodge, for his participation in a postrace altercation Sunday night at Texas Motor Speedway, the Observer has learned.

Curione was identified as the member of Riggs’ Evernham Motorsports crew who shoved driver Kevin Harvick from behind while he and his wife, DeLana, were walking from pit road toward the garage area after the Dickies 500, multiple sources confirmed.

The Harvicks and NASCAR official John Sacco all fell and landed in front of the No. 10’s crash cart, with the cart hitting Sacco and leaving him with a sprained ankle. The Harvicks were not hurt.

“NASCAR has been looking into this postrace incident since it occurred. It’s something we take very seriously,” series spokesman Kerry Tharp said. “An announcement regarding a course of action could come as early as Tuesday.”

On Lap 332 of the race, Harvick and Riggs were racing for position exiting Turn 4 when Harvick hit Riggs from behind, knocking him hard into the wall and demolishing his car. Riggs was not hurt.

At the time, Riggs was poised to make a late-race charge on Tony Stewart for the victory.

A spokeswoman for Evernham Motorsports said the team was cooperating with NASCAR’s investigation and would not comment until a final determination had been made.

Curione, 37, a native of Sanborn, N.Y., worked on Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon’s pit crew before joining Evernham.

Can't say that I'm surprised. I'm still expecting something from Ray as well.

Thanks for posting the update, Katie!

He should be fired, and fined, and whatever other penalties they can think of.
1. It's bullshit to attack someone from behind.
2. It's double bullshit to do anything thing like that to a girl. Be pissed at Kevin if you want to, but don't even think about touching his wife.
3. Watch the damn video, even the announcers said that Harvick didn't touch him and that he just took the air off of him. Which in my opinion wouldn't have even happened if Riggs hadn't gotten loose and checked up a few seconds before.
4. If he was trying to push them in front of the moving cart, like it sounds like he was trying to do, that's really bad because someone could have gotten seriously hurt.
5. Just GRR :mad to him for being such a dumbass.

James Rocco — Valvoline Evernham Racing, Designated Team Owner

"After a comprehensive internal review of the post-race incident between Kevin Harvick and a member of the No. 10 team, Valvoline Evernham Racing supports NASCAR's decision to indefinitely suspend the involved crew member. We apologize to Kevin and DeLana Harvick, NASCAR, our partners and our fans for this incident. The behavior demonstrated by the involved crew member was in violation of the Valvoline Evernham Racing Employee Code of Conduct and will not be tolerated. We concur with NASCAR's ruling and will not appeal the suspension or fine."

Harvick-Riggs mess

Surprised and disappointed that the Kevin Harvick-Scott Riggs incident got so out of hand. Sure, frustrations run high at the end of a race, especially when you are running up front and in contention for a win, but what happened after the race was inexcusable.

To set the scene -- Harvick had finished with his post-race interviews on pit road and was heading to the garage to change clothes. At the same time, the 10 team was pushing their pit cart down the hill -- at Texas the road from pit lane to the garage is down hill. Now this pit cart probably weighs about 2,000 pounds, so it takes several guys to push it around. One of the members on Riggs crew decided that it would be a good idea to push Harvick down to show his displeasure with his move on the track -- brilliant!

Instead he pushed down NASCAR official John Sacco (who could tag team with John Cena any time-he's a big boy) as well as the both Kevin and DeLana Harvick -- once again brilliant!

Whoever this guy is (NASCAR would not release his name Sunday night) should not only lose his credential for the year but also lose his job. He first of all had no idea what happened on the track and secondly he has no business trying to knock someone down while he is pushing a 2,000-pound pit cart. I am sure that NASCAR and Ray Evernham will come down heavy on this one and they should.
