Kasey's Quotes

KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger) – 2nd

“We’ve had some ups and downs, but it feels good to get a good run here today. I think the way it finished with the two guys in front of us wrecking, we would have finished fourth or fifth, somewhere in there hopefully, but I’m real happy. This is my best finish on a restrictor-plate track, best finish at Talladega. I got some help today. Kurt Busch helped me some, and it’s nice when you’re getting a push from behind once in awhile.”

COMMENT ON THE LAST LAP CRASH “For me I was right behind it. It looked like those guys were waiting, kinda ganging up on the 8. The 25 was pushing, gave him (48) a great run. He was pushing him by. It was hard to tell who went which way, but it kinda looked like the 25 went down to get behind the 48 and keep pushing him and he was already a little bit up on his right rear corner there and actually kinda hooked him and turned him into the 8 from where I was. I was also racing, trying to miss all that stuff, so I could be a little wrong.”

DOES THIS MAKE UP FOR SOME OF THE BAD FINISHES IN THE CHASE? “Heck yeah. It’s great to get a top five at Talladega. Going into The Chase I was thinking this would be the track we would probably need to get through. We’ve never finished in the top 10 here. I knew this would be a tough track but instead it’s been our best one so far. It’s good. I’m looking forward to going to Charlotte next week, a track we won at earlier in the season. With the good finish here, we ran up front the last 35-40 laps, I feel like we can carry a little momentum there and have a great Charlotte weekend, too.”

No. 9 - Kasey Kahne among late contenders, but just misses
By JIM UTTER
The Charlotte Observer
TALLADEGA, Ala. - If the final caution had been displayed a few seconds later, Kasey Kahne would have been the one celebrating in Victory Lane after Sunday's UAW-Ford 500.

Motor Racing Network actually declared Kahne the winner initially, but NASCAR reviewed the final lap as the field is “frozen” when the caution first appears.

At that point, Vickers was still the leader.

"This is my best finish on a restrictor-plate track, best finish at Talladega. I got some help today," Kahne said.

"Kurt Busch helped me some, and it's nice when you're getting a push from behind once in a while."

---notice they talk about his good race, but don't even mention the points he made up, I think we are still flying under the radar---

After the last three races, 'Dega is definitely one hell of a confidence booster for the team.

I haven't watched the race yet. I'll do that tonight.

To be honest with you, just the way I like it.

I noticed in quite a bit of the articles it was barely mentioned that Kasey finished 2nd, let alone the fact that he made up 88 points IN ONE DAY AT TALLADEGA! So. Flying under the radar? I like it. :)

I think it's good Kasey is under the radar. That way he can sneak up on everyone and they will all say "Where did he come from?"

Can I say it was about effin' time someone other than Tony was giving Kasey help out there. I know Elliot and Scott would have helped had they could, but Kurt was the last person I would have thought would have helped Kasey. Big srub has moved up one notch in my book for yesterday's performance.

carriekins - October 9, 2006 11:10 PM (GMT)
Well, the good news is, I think people might be more willing to dance with Kasey at the RP tracks now that he's not only finished a race in the top-ten, but also led laps (battling Junior and Jimmie for that lead, mind you). He was actually working fairly well with Junior, Truex, Kyle Busch, Tony and Kurt... every little bit helps. I'm definitely looking more forward to the RP tracks next season. :)
