Title: General Mills/Betty Crocker NOT coming back

NeverBeenThawed - September 24, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
It was reported during the truck race that GM/BC are not going to be coming back to sponsor Erin...she said in her article thingy this week that as far as she knew they were...interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if General Mills/Betty Crocker does leave.

I don't fully believe the announcers, though. They may be basing their report based on the rumor, like they've done before. I remember them reporting last season that Kevin Harvick was going to the 2 car this year.

That's true, I agree with you Peter. But, I also agree that I wouldn't be surprised. General Mills hasn't got their money's worth with Erin...

I think most of us saw that one coming . . . If it is true.

Yup. (Though I'd rather have a confirmation from Evernham Motorsports, IMO General Mills not renewing is probably inevitable.)

But I really think General Mills would have given her one more year - even with her performance this year - had it not been for external factors.

I see Erin finished 24th last night, one position behind Jeremy Mayfield (23rd). Not a great race for either one...

it will be interesting to see how this rumor plays out.........

me either

If it's true, I don't blame BC/GM at all. They have a reputation to uphold, and unfortunately because of all of the behind the scenes rumors and reality, she doesn't fit that reputation anymore.

From the wire service article posted in the Articles after Dover thread:Article

Though that article is mostly about Ray and Kasey, Ray confirms General Mills is out for Erin.

"It's been a hard year sponsorshipwise. And lets face it, its been a pretty nasty year personally. I've taken a lot of abuse publicly for things that I feel are unfair.

"But I believe if I continue to work hard and do the things that I do, everything will be fine. And I've always believed that the greatest enemy of any lie is time."
...

He's also got sponsorship woes with Crocker, who is losing General Mills as the primary source of financial support on her Truck Series ride. Either way, he plans to have her back for a full season in 2007.

I wonder what company, if any, will sign on...luckily he has a few months to get a deal together. General Mills had the resources to fund a high-dollar truck team, don't know if he'll get that same kind of deal elsewhere.

I won't lie. I hope she doesn't find sponsorship and she doesn't race. She's just not cut out for it. There's a steep (and fast) learning curve in this sport, in any of the series, and if you aren't up to that, you've got to get out and make way for someone else.

I have mixed feeling about Erin... I think that she wanted too much too quickly and I think Ray expected her to be like Kasey... jump out of the Sprints and do OK in busch and do pretty well in cup... I think Erin needs more time in the lower series to get used to the cars and I don't feel that she got that time... let alone when she was getting some time in the ARCA and what not did she use it and get all she could from it... I have nothing against Erin... but I really think that she wanted too much too quickly... it's kind of like she expected to go straight in to NEXTEL cup (although I know she didn't)... and I think Ray like I said expected her to have success right away...

Eh... I hope things work out though... and maybe this will help them both take a couple of steps back and maybe spend some more time in the lower series getting more seat time and what not for her...
