Kasey goes out 2nd to qualify...

NeverBeenThawed - September 22, 2006 04:45 PM (GMT)
Just a hunch...Kasey won't be getting the pole today. Don't slaughter me---but his practice times thus far have been dismal.

ETA. Hopefully I'll be wrong though.

ryskibusiness938 - September 22, 2006 05:35 PM (GMT)
:gokasey ....back up that practice time!

Court - September 22, 2006 07:00 PM (GMT)

Kasey's up...

Court - September 22, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)
2nd of 2...

Peter - September 22, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)
Eh, 2nd...not sure how it'll hold up.

NeverBeenThawed - September 22, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
eh oh well. poles don't mean much. nor does practice.

Peter - September 22, 2006 07:21 PM (GMT)
I'm curious to read what Kasey says about his car in his quotes later. He was a few tenths of a second quicker than the two guys ahead of him right now in practice.

4th of 8 isn't bad. It should probably be about midpack.

Court - September 22, 2006 07:21 PM (GMT)
Carl to the top..

Peter - September 22, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
Well, Scott's fast. Hopefully he can get the pole for EMS.

Court - September 22, 2006 07:23 PM (GMT)
Scooter to the top now..

NeverBeenThawed - September 22, 2006 07:26 PM (GMT)
Good for Scott. That'd be nice to see him get another pole.

Princess_Sara400 - September 22, 2006 07:31 PM (GMT)
I don't get it I thought Kasey was fastest in practice

NeverBeenThawed - September 22, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
One thing I like about this track is qualifying doesn't drag on...and on...and on...

"Cousin Carl" moderately annoys.

Practice doesn't mean anything when it comes to quals...sometimes it's a good indicator, but you can't take that to mean much. The track changes. One good lap in practice means nothing, really. And that's all he had was that one fast lap. Otherwise, that car was pretty dismal.

Well, almost every team runs at least one qualifying run in qualifying practice, so it's usually a good indicator of how well a car is capable of qualifying.

Kasey's probably slowed down more than anyone since practice, so something definitely wasn't right with the setup on the current track conditions. At least the practice speeds proved that Kasey's running faster than he qualified.

Scrapbookgirl9 - September 22, 2006 07:37 PM (GMT)
*sneeks on at work*

Eh, we'll be at the front come Sunday, so no worries here :)

And go Scooter! I hope it holds up!

I really think it's more hit or miss, though, with your mock qualifying run compared with the actual thing...it can show you how a car is capable of qualifying, but that doesn't mean you can meet that at all. Just my three cents.

NeverBeenThawed - September 22, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
Well, that sucks for Scott. I'd almost rather not see him get the pole...bleh.

Court - September 22, 2006 07:40 PM (GMT)
Scott might not be starting on the pole.. he missed a shift during his run, and ran pretty high RPM's. The guys are on the phone with the guys back at the engine shop.. so they'll possibly be making an engine change.

Scrapbookgirl9 - September 22, 2006 07:40 PM (GMT)
must have made a change the car didn't like for the track conditions.....

but usually if Kasey is high up in practice, he's high up in quals. The draw didn't help either probably.

oh well it looks like relative to most of the other Chasers he's gonna be starting around a lot of others.....so its all good, he'll head to the front for sure

You're absolutely right. In practice, teams can set up their mock qualifying runs for the current track conditions. In qualifying, they have to guess. Usually, with the exception of the last few weeks, Kasey's able to back up his fast practice speeds with good qualifying runs. Unfortunately, they missed it again this weekend.

Tough break for Scott.. He'll have a good pit selection at least.

I just want you to know that I wasn't disagreeing with anything you said, rather, expanding on the whole qualifying-practice differential in times.

Right, got it.

Decent run for David Ragan in his first time in a Nextel Cup car. It'll be close, though, if he makes the field or not.

NeverBeenThawed - September 22, 2006 07:48 PM (GMT)
I'm thrilled that quals are over half done...hehe. I should get to watch all of it before I have to leave.

That's pretty crappy of Nascar, imho, about the engines. I get why they do it, but geez. If you do blow an engine during practice or quals, your problems are most likely going to be bigger than just replacing an engine...man.

Court - September 22, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
Rodney Childers talked to NASCAR, and they said there's nothing wrong with the engine... they have to find something wrong with it, or stick with it 'til it blows up.
