Every once in a while Scott does an appearance at the Kawasaki of Durham, which he is part owner in. I met him at his last appearance there and I had the opportunity to meet him again tonight, so ofcourse I went and showed my pride for my hometown Evernham driver. :good
A few highlights from tonight....
- I met the pacecar driver from Orange County Speedway, where Scott got his start in racing, and was offered a ride in the official pacecar. I’m pretty excited about that! If that happens, I’ll be sure to take pictures and share them with you guys. :drive
- A few years ago, my mother and I met a friend of Scott’s that worked at the Kawasaki shop. He’s been a friend of his for years and assured us that Scott was the nicest, laidback person you could ever hope to meet. When we came through the line a second time he offered to go in the back and brew a pot of coffee for us. Well, that was years ago, and we met again tonight and remembered each other! The great thing about cheering for a hometown driver is that everyone knows Scott in some way and you always see someone you know at the signings.
- We waited an hour to see Scott but Jai was there with Layne and Skyler and we all were entertained by watching Layne scramble all over top of the fourwheelers. He looks just like his Dad and is just adorable. They’re just a nice, down to earth, normal family.
- Scott was amazing as usual. I’m sure he was tired, but he took the time to talk, take photographs, and sign autographs with everyone. Even though I had met him before and knew how kind he was, I was a little nervous to ask for a photograph with him because I wasn’t sure he had the time. He invited me behind the table though and even took the time to talk with my mother. She told him that she had heard people say he was the nicest driver in the garage and he laughed and told her that those people had lied. He said he’d try his best to make us proud and we told him that he already had. He thanked everyone over and over for coming out and really appreciates his fans. :)
- Then, the final highlight of the night was being interviewed by our local newspaper. They asked why we were Scott Riggs fans and took notice of my Victory Junction shirt. I’m excited they talked to me, but it’s going to be odd to see myself quoted in the paper. B)
