Maine native Ryan Moore, a development driver for Dale Earnhardt Inc., will get another crack in the NASCAR Busch Series at Phoenix International Raceway this Friday.
Moore, the son of Grand National North champion Kelly Moore, inked a one-race ride with Braun Racing on Monday. Moore is replacing outgoing driver A.J. Foyt IV, who was released from his duties.
“This is kind of a last minute deal and I’m really excited about it,” Moore said. “Hopefully, it will be more than one ride. I’m just going to see what I can do and take it from there.”
The 22-year-old Moore, a regular in the Grand National North division, had three starts in 2005 for DEI in the Busch Series. His best finish was 13th at Homestead-Miami in the final race of the season.
Moore, a two-time Grand National North winner, finished third in a Grand National West race at Phoenix last spring. This will be Moore’s first start of 2006. Moore will also compete for his father’s Grand National North race team starting in June.
Last October Moore was suspended from all NASCAR competition for about a month after a post-race retaliation incident following a Busch North race in Lakeville, Conn., involving then-series rookie Sean Caisse.

Wait... I thought AJ was going to be driving part-time in that car... did they kick him out completely now?

That's what they said on NBS 24/7... that he would be in 10 or 11 more races... but like Jen said... no idea

I thought that the 38 was a dodge. did they flip it over to a chevy because of Braun? Whatever the reasons for the changes, I hope AJ can find another ride. He's got talent, it just takes time to develop.

Foyt out at Braun-Akins: Ryan Moore will drive Braun Racing's #38 Chevrolet in this weekend's Busch Series race at Phoenix International Raceway, according to the team's Web site. Moore replaces A.J. Foyt IV, who had his full-time schedule cut back before being let go by the team April 17. Foyt is under contract to Evernham Motorsports, which is affiliated with Dodge. Braun and Akins Motorsports, which fielded Dodges for Foyt, completed their merger with the #38's team's move to Chevrolet, leaving Foyt out of a ride because of the conflict with Dodge.(NASCAR Scene)(4-18-2006)
Sounds like he's done for since he can't run in Chevy's.

:nono That is messed up.
Makes you wonder though. Would they still have moved to Chevy had AJ not done so poorly, or was this just an easier way to get rid of him?

I think that since he is a developmental driver for Ray Evernham, he will figure something out.

I really don't think that all is well over at Braun-Akins. From what I've heard, the folks at the top of the company aren't the greatest people. In a small organization like a race team, the people on top are very important. But I don't think they're helping anything.
A.J. will find himself another ride. But he also has to learn how to stop crashing cars (sound like anyone else). When he does that, he'll be HOT!

Thanks for the info! I don't know a lot about AJ Foyt IV, but I feel a little sorry for him. However, watching NBS 24/7 last night, I was wondering what would happen to the jobs of the #38 team folks if they didn't run a full schedule, so in a way, I'm glad they might have found a way to make that happen. It will be interesting to see what Ray does with him now. Maybe there can be a full-time ride in ARCA?
I especially feel bad since he just got engaged, like, two weeks ago. Now's he out of a job (of course, someone had to go ask on his fiancee's blog about him losing his ride.) His fiancee's post-engagement story is very cute.

April 04, 2006 That's painful Swelling, throbbing pain and a trip to the ER - all things I never expected to follow my picturesque engagement.
But expect the unexpected; and grab your ice skates.
Hell has frozen over: Raygan Swan is engaged!
We were standing on a log in scenic Brown County when Anthony popped the question.
Everything was perfect until I decided to put the ring on my index finger last night before I went to bed. I did so because it was loose on my ring finger and I couldn't bear to take it off.
Yeah, well. Great idea Swan.
I woke up this morning with a pulsating index finger and despite twisting, tugging and even pulling, I couldn’t get the sucker off.
I tried every household product from olive oil to Vaseline. Nothing was working.
Panic stricken, I came to the office and said to reporter Andy Gammill, "Help, I can’t get this ring off. And, oh by the way, I’m engaged."
We tried everything Andy and another co-worker - editor Becky Walter -could think of. Motrin, lotion and ice, all to no avail.
At that point my finger was turning purple, so Andy gave me a 1-800 number to a nurse help line.
Half joking, I asked the woman, “Am I in danger of losing my finger?” Her reply: “Not immediately.”
Freaked out to the 10th power and sweating, I called my dad. He cuts arms and legs off for a living (vascular surgeon), so I knew he would have some creative solution.
Indeed he did.
I met my stepmom, Diana, at the ER and she grabbed some peanut oil from the cafeteria.
We both sat a bathroom floor, peanut oil dripping from my finger, and recapped the proposal until my dad arrived.
“I need umbilical cord string,” he said.
Um, dad a little late for that, mine’s been gone for a while.
Funny, but he and another doctor, Betsy Boatwright, threaded the string under my ring and started cranking it over my knuckle.
The pain was unreal. But the pain of telling Anthony that we had to cut the ring off, I imagined, would be worse.
Thankfully, my miracle-working dad and Betsy got the ring off.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is my engagement story.
Tell me yours.
I’ll be reading them while I ice my still-swollen and bruised index finger. |

well..........I can't say I'm totally surprised, but at the same time I little surprised, but man Braun just can't do anything himself and he just keep taking over other stuff hoping to be successful.........
I guess we'll see how this turns out in the next few weeks
