STATESVILLE, N.C. (September 30, 2005) – One of the most innovative and worthwhile motorsports items to be auctioned on eBay Motors is open for bids on September 30. The item -- a custom Pro-street V-twin chopper created by Ray Evernham, Dave Perewitz and PPG -- matches style, power and performance with a great cause in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
And, in light of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, which damaged treatment centers and displaced patients from their regular treatment providers, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will now direct the proceeds of the auction to address the urgent needs of blood cancer patients in the region.
Bidding for the Charity Chopper runs September 30 through October 9. To view the chopper or place a bid, visit www.ebay.com/charitychopper. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Delivery will take place at the Texas Motor Speedway during the November race weekend where the winning bidder will be presented the bike by Ray Evernham and PPG representatives.
The program began when Ray Evernham, president and CEO of Evernham Motorsports, combined his love of motorcycles with his charitable outreach effort, Racing for a Reason, and his commitment to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to support a program that will raise money for the life-saving work of this charity.
Evernham teamed up with legendary bike builder Dave Perewitz, founder of Perewitz Cycle Fab, and PPG Automotive Refinish to design and build a custom Pro-street V-twin chopper with a 40 degree rake featuring a 121 cu. in. TP Engineering engine and a 6-speed Baker RSD transmission, Weld Racing wheels, Danny Gray custom seat and a 300 Avon Venom series rear tire. The Charity Chopper features a fabulous finish from the PPG Vibrance Collection™ with a Liquid Crystal Oh-So-Orange topcoat and classic Perewitz flames.
The Charity Chopper has appeared with the PPG Show Truck at custom car and bike shows around the country and select NASCAR events all spring and summer. In addition, Evernham, Perewitz and PPG sponsored monthly charity auctions on eBay offering high-profile collectible items to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has been incredibly important to me and my family, and I’m committed to finding new and unique ways to help raise funds for the important work they do,” said Evernham. “I love motorcycles, particularly custom bikes, and the chance to build a bike with a legend like Dave Perewitz is a great opportunity. PPG is a great partner in this, from providing a fabulous finish for the bike to helping raise funds for the cause and providing marketing and promotional support for the entire program. Together, we can raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and raise awareness of this cause.”

Humpy makes first bid on Evernham Chopper Auction: Humpy Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway, has taken the lead in the bidding for the custom Pro-street V-twin chopper created by Ray Evernham, Dave Perewitz and PPG that matches style, power and performance with a great cause in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Wheeler placed the first bid for the Custom Chopper for Charity at 12:01am/et when bidding opened on September 30. The bidding will run through October 9. The cause is also personal with Wheeler, who has had friends and colleagues affected with lymphoma, including Phylis Lipford, who has worked for Wheeler the past 23 years and currently serves as Manager of Ticket Services for the speedway. “This is a great bike and worthy effort to assist with this much-needed program,” said Wheeler. “I am proud to be the first bidder and get this auction started. Phylis and so many others who bravely battle leukemia and lymphoma are truly inspirations to me and so many others. Ray is truly gifted at what he does and is an excellent role model representing our sport. I hope others in our industry, including fans, are inspired to bid on the bike or contribute funds.”(Clear!Blue PR), for more info on the auction and other racing Charities events, see my Racing Charities page.(9-30-2005)
