Schedule shuffling
August 27, 2005
I'd like to find a way to give us more weekends off. There has to be a way to spread out the schedule so you would run so many races and then have a weekend off.
It's good for the guys, good for the drivers, good for everybody to have time to regroup, have a weekend off with their families and just be normal. But that's not what it's all about. Racing is our life. That's not what it's all about. But it certainly would help to get refreshed every 10 races or so.
What makes the schedule so difficult is going out to the West Coast and then coming back ... and going out and coming back ... and going out and coming back. There really needs to be a travel plan. We need to have a West Coast race every 10 races or something where were not out there one week and then coming all the way back East and then out to the West Coast one week later.
If I had my druthers NASCAR would build breaks into the season - except for the Chase. I want to keep the momentum going on that deal. Let's run all 10 and be done with it. I would like to see a separate point system in the Chase. Because if you have a bad race and finish 40th -- like we did at New Hampshire -- then you're out of it. You're losing points to all the guys that are just there to race. Maybe have the top 10 separated by just five points a race. That would be cool.

I agree with him....I think there are too many off weekends at the beginning, and not enough toward the end. And I think there should be an off weekend after Richmond, to give the teams a chance to breathe before the Chase starts.

uh-huh......plus if Brian France wants a dang media blitz........that would give him longer to have it.
But this year I wonder how much of the media will show up if the likes of Dale Jr and maybe Jeff Gordon aren't there.......gotta figure there would be some media outlets that wouldn't care or would just bury it from what they would do on it if those 2 were there.

i agree also. def needs to be more organized and planned. and the break before the chase thing would be great.
i mean some of these people sacrifice their want of a family till years later just so they don't miss all the kids firsts and stuff.
more structured scheduling would def help.
