When PuppetMaster is asked to display an image on a phone that doesn't match the dimensions of the device screen, it has to resize the image.

There are different ways that this image resizing can be done, each with different benefits.

First, I should explain what the options are

Standard - provides a good 2D image resizing mechanism (bilinear), but can be rough on the edges of small font sizes and images. It tends to require the least amount of data to send to the phone, and is the quickest to calculate.

Enhanced - provides an image resizing mechanism that works in 3 dimensions. The third dimension is to do with the level of detail of an object. To best explain this - if you image a checker pattern of alternating black and white pixels, as you zoom further out, it should look like a grey image. Enhanced blends between two levels of detail. For images, this is often a nicer scaling, but for text, it often becomes a little blurred.

Optimized RGB/BGR use a trilinear algorithm with enhancements to take advantage of LCD pixel ordering to give the best image quality. Most phones use RGB ordering. The actual data transmitted is generally more than Standard and Enhanced, so it may result in slower transfer times; but the image quality should be much cleaner.

So that's all the technical information - I guess what's more important is what they LOOK like. So I've attached a little jpg file that you can download.

1. Download (or click on) the file and open it so that it's visible your the screen
2. Start PuppetMaster
3. Go to Preferences->Devices -> Deselect active image degradation for now
4. Move the Preferences window so that it doesn't overlap the area of the screen that is showing the ResizeExample.jpg.
5. Click on Image Resizing method so that it has keyboard focus
6. Go into mouse mode on your device. Position the cursor and zoom so that the entire image fits on the screen [but don't click - make sure that the image resizing option still has keyboard focus]
7. Use the up and down arrow keys (on your keyboard) to change the resizing method option. The image will be updated on the screen. You should find that the Optimized (RGB) or Optimized (BGR) gives the smoothest images.

Another way of seeing the different resizing algorithms in action is using the PowerPoint control.
1. Start PuppetMaster.
2. Go to Preferences->Devices -> Deselect active image degradation for now
3. On your phone, go to the PowerPoint control, start a presentation, and press "2" to show the current slide.
4. Alt-Tab on your computer to show the device preferences.
5. Select a different image resizing method to see it on your screen. You should find that either Optimized (RGB) or Optimized (BGR) gives the smoothest images.

You will probably want to re-enable Active Image Degradation after either of these tests.

I miss in the Settings image aspect ration option. Not everyone likes when the image is distorted according to mobile device display aspect ratio. May I ask you if you plan to implement it?
