Title: Discussion Of The Week

Vic - November 23, 2007 10:42 PM (GMT)
I'm making up for lost time.

It may have passed many of you by, but yesterday was the anniversary of the death of JFK.

In these days of a bozo president who can hardly string two words together, it's difficult to remember a president who not only had command of the language, but could actually deliver a speech without muffing it, and convey a powerful message at the same time.

But JFK could not only string together words, he could join together a country, and even a world in common cause-- the freedom of man. Another unique concept in this time when it seems as if the government is trying to see how much freedom it can steal away from the people, and how many bridges it can burn with our friends and allies.

In his short tenure as President, JFK made memorable strides forward with the country, many of which continue to this day. His was not so much a partisan government, but a meeting of many minds from many parts of the country.

His speech copied here, caused *thousands* of young Americans to flock to Washington, offering to work with or *without* pay, just to be a part of something truly great.

If you want to see further examples, a good one showing how he was able to unite our friends and allies, watch the short "Ich Bin Ein Berliner" speech: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hH6nQhss4Yc and his speech calling for a mission to the moon will show you the inspiration we had to go beyond the stars.

JFK was not perfect- like all of us, he was a mortal man with many of the failings of mortal men. But he was a leader, a uniter- someone you could look at with pride-- no matter your political affiliation-- and say *here* is our President.

I'd invite you all (at least those of you in the U.S.) to view his inaguration speech below, and compare it to those seeking office today.

This is why JFK will go down in history as one of our best Presidents, and why the current one is already one of, if not "the", worst.
