Is Ocyras Biased?
Discuss.
Alway - June 15, 2007 02:19 AM (GMT)
Biased? Of course not. :P

Yes. Ocyras is very biased. It is impossible for it not to be biased, because it is a website against school. You have a section named "School Stupidities", which is definitely biased. All your rants are against school, and even your fan rants. Almost all the pages are mostly Vic and Alway's (biased) opinions. You even have a "Humor" page making fun of school. If I were a "normal" principal, I would call you both "troubled" and send you to a councilor! (Of course, I am not a principal, and if I was, I probably wouldn't be a "normal" one.)
Alway - June 15, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)
Well, realist, I want to assure you that Vic and I are not troubled. We do have a "normal" principal, who thinks that not only that we are not troubled, but we are quite intelligent. Just because we believe that the current school system needs to be improved so kids can be less bored and learn more at the same time, does not mean, in any way, shape, or form, that we are, in fact, troubled.

No.
Anyway, the only way Ocyras is biased, is to the opinions of the person who wrote that specific page (usually me). In that way, every written work ever recorded is biased. It is nearly impossible to make an unbiased website that contains different people's opinions. You, realist, seem to be biased towards school. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, I am just pointing out that you, too, can be biased. You are accusing us of too many things. We just want to share our opinions, in hope for a better world. I hope this message gets through to you, realist.
School Stupidities is not a biased name. There is a site called Computer Stupidities. it is not biased against computers. It lists stupid, funny things that people have said about computers. That's not biased at all. School Stupidities is practically the same thing (except the Humor page). I can't see how that is biased.
None of my rants are against school. They are simply opinions on how to improve the current school system.
The "Humor" page is just as it seems. Humor. It is not intended to be taken seriously. Have you ever listened to a comedian? They make fun of different things quite often. That is considered humor. If we make fun of school, in order to provide humorous entertainment for our website's visitors, that means we are biased? It's not really biased at all. Do you consider comedians biased? If you do, then you could consider our Humor page biased.

I can see that you are quite intelligent, by the form of your sentences , and the complexity of your thoughts (posts.) If I were an enrichment program organizer, I would sign you up right away. Not Vic though. So far on the forums he has shown the mental capacity of lemonade.

I guess School stupidities isn't that biased.

The first line of your rant "Forced Education" reads
QUOTE (Forced Education)
Yeah. What I'm talking about here is forced education. You may know it as "school". Call it what you want, there's something wrong with it.
Forget bias, how is "there's something wrong with it" not against school?
QUOTE (Forced Education)
"School is a place where millions of kids are forced to go every day to learn about things that do not interest them, some of which are completely useless and will only be used in about 0.3% of the children's future careers. They work for most of the day on pointless worksheets and notebooks while they sit and rot and their brains fill with mostly useless information. Then they go home, and the next day, they go through it all over again. But, the good thing is they might pick up a few useful things that they are going to use in their real lives."
This is the part of the rant I most disagree with. 0.3% of the children's future careers? I have not the slightest clue of how old you are, but when you are older, you will see that math, science, and even French and history are very useful, no matter what you are hoping to become. And another reason why it is biased - you use many superlatives. "mostly useless"? "while they sit and rot"? I wouldn't call this an unbiased rant - it's more like a persuasive letter.(not that excellent persuasive letter writing skills aren't useless. I can see you get very good marks in English.)

Not every written work ever recorded. Like you said, it is biased to the opinion of you or Vic. What if something isn't opinion? What if it is only fact? Will it still be biased?
QUOTE (Alway)
The "Humor" page is just as it seems. Humor. It is not intended to be taken seriously. Have you ever listened to a comedian? They make fun of different things quite often.
It is not intended to be taken seriously, but it is. Do you remember the recent case of Don Imus? He was a comedian who was taken seriously.
QUOTE (Alway)
Do you consider comedians biased?
Actually, I do. Maybe not biased as much as prejudiced. They make fun of stereotypes to make people laugh. This (to me) is pathetic. If you need to make fun of a certain group to be funny... well, you aren't funny at all.

Wow, realist. I am quite impressed with you. You are the first person I have ever met on the Internet who can have intelligent debates without starting a flame war. I agree with you on your points, but as for Vic, in real life is quite intelligent. More than lemonade. I know you were just kidding, but that's besides the point.
Anyway, you will always be a welcome member here at Ocyras, Realist.
