I have a dual boot system - Ubuntu Beryl, and Windows Milan Alpha.
I am a bug tester. I usually use Ubuntu, but I recently recieved Windows Milan Alpha (the newest Microsoft OS) which is coming out in 2010. If you looked at my desktop, you have seen that I have Internet Explorer 7 Beta, and Internet Explorer 8 Alpha. From the Mozilla team, I have Firefox 3 Beta. Of course, I have Photoshop as well. Lack of programs is because I don't use this operating system often, but I won't post my Ubuntu desktop. And Windows Milan is amazing. Be sure to get it once it is released.

Seeing as this is the off-topic chat forum... I have a few off-topic questions for you, Realist.

How do you become a bug tester? It would be interesting.

Do you have any other job than bug testing? Just curious.

How much do you get paid for bug testing? Just curious.

I mostly tested open betas (google is your friend!) until I got hired by a beta testing company. If you want to become a paid beta tester, you'll need to take Computer Science courses in high school, and English and Spanish. (French also if you live in Canada.)

I used to be an IT person at an office, where I would fix computers. Now that I get paid for bug testing, I've resigned from that job.

It always depends on the company. For Windows Vista, I got paid $100 a day. That might not seem like much, but I also was testing other things. And you have to admit, $70 for playing on the computer is great. When I tested Norton anti virus 10.2, I had to buy a new computer to test it, and I had to ruin the computer by downloading viruses to test the anti virus, so I got paid $200 a day, plus I got reimbursed $1100 for the cost of the computer.

Finally posted the desktop.

Explanation:

Yeah, I made my own poorly-edited desktop image.

Yes, I know there are more then eight icons in the top eight box.

Internet Explorer is in the top eight, because if you use it once, it goes right into second place in the start menu, and that's what I base my top eight off.

The Junk box is for stuff that I don't use, but my family does. Well, I use acrobat reader, but, umm... yeah.

I also have Wubi, which treats Ubuntu as a regular Windows application, like Notepad or Paint, but it's another OS. I don't use Wubi much, for some reason.

Alway - July 4, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
When you boot, it gives you the choice on whether to use Ubuntu or Windows.

Yeah, but you can install and uninstall it like any other Windows program.

Victor, you can't just "uninstall" Ubuntu on a regular dual boot machine... what I mean is you can just go to (in windows) the Add/Remove Programs List and remove it from there. Or, you could just use the Wubi uninstaller. You cannot do this with a regular dual-boot.

Vic - July 15, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
yes you can.

Alway - July 16, 2007 12:07 AM (GMT)
Uhh... I really don't think you can. Have you ever had a dual boot system? You have to partition the hard drive, etc, etc, on a regular dual boot. With Wubi, you install like any other program, and uninstall like any other program.

~Alway

By the way, my Wubi stopped working so I uninstalled it (just like any other Windows program) :(

Alway - July 17, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
koolman911, Vic's desktop pic could very easily be faked. Although he probably found a tutorial on the Internet to make that effect on his desktop. OR, he's using a XP/Vista dual-boot or something like that... I've never had that, so I'm not sure how that would look in system properties.
