Well I am getting off cheap on this one. After coming home and going through my aquired stash of spare parts, all I need is a crash kit.

This makes me think of all the anti helicopter people who always say they are to expensive because of the cost of crashes. The trick is crashing more often, because then you start building up more and more spare parts and the crashes start costing less and less.

How many times have you trashed an airplane and just had to disassemble it, replace a few bad parts for around $50 and reassemble. :D When I get the parts in, I can put it back together in about 2 hours. I have spent 30 or more hours and a lot more money repairing airplanes, and for what? After the repair it was still just an airplane and never as good as the original build, where as a helicopter is as good as new after a repair.

I like that positive thinking. :)

I can keep a secret and will not let Margo know what it is really going to cost you. :what:

No!! No!! No!!

It's just that you bought the parts befor you crashed :P And it just seams like it is cheaper :P Because you forgot that you already PAID for them :P

Let's see. There is the balsa needed, the glue, the monokote, replacing any broken parts such as needle valves, receivers, servos, busted linkages. It all adds up, I was really refering to the fact that most crashed airplane wind up in the trash and a new KIT or ARF is bought to replace it, even if you do that with a heli you are still going to save a lot of good parts where a bals built up airframe is often just trashed entirely. Take for instance a brand new Shrike ARF crashed a week after it was RTF, the repair cost would have been the cost of a new ARF had the owner decided to do so. I am not allowed to mention a certain AT-6 Texan that would strengthen my case if I could.

I wound up cancelling the order for the crash kit and just getting a new Main Shaft, spindle Shaft and fly bar. I already had everything else so the total cost of this Hawk crash was only $22. I know Don, at some point I already paid for the parts that I had on hand, but the average cost per crash is down after this last one. See the fuzzy logic detailed below.

1st crash with HAwk - crash kit and new landing struts and Fin set. $60
2 Crash - entire new KIT $189
3rd Crash - just a crash Kit $40 (used some parts from 1st kit)
4th Crash - 2 shafts and a fly bar - $22 (again had spare parts from 1st kit remains)
Total = $311 / 4 crashes = $77.75 per crash about half the cost of a Shrike ARF and even less than a Twist ARF.

Before the last crash the total cost was = $289 / 3 crashes = $96.33 per crash, so you see this last heli crash actually saved me money. When is the last time you netted a profit after crashing an airplane?

I rest my case

Hmmmmmmm!! OK :P

How much profit did you make when you used 3 Twists to make 1 Twist

Hmmmm, not to rain on your parade dear....but how many crashes do ya think its gonna take till the Raptor is profitable??
So i guess the trick is never get any thing new and just fix the old stuff right?!??

PS...so does that mean if i buy a pair of pants at $32 and get a second pair at half price ($16) that i actually MADE $16???? I like fuzzy math!!!!

You should buy it pre-wrecked then you're automatically in the profit zone B)
