Title: What will you fly at Armageddon?
Mike - January 26, 2006 08:27 PM (GMT)
I've been trying to think about what to fly in Armageddon. The obvious choice would seem to be the Super Sportster, but it just doesn't slow down as well as I would like for some of those events. Plus I've been having so much trouble with that old Webra lately that I don't really trust it. I'm pretty intrigued by the Twist, and have to say if I could get one in the "plug and play" color scheme I probably would. Other than that, I don't have any ideas. Already have a big project on the workbench so I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.
Plus there's combat to thing about. Again, the Sportster would be the obvious choice for that but with the engine being as finicky as it is, cutting quick turns and half loops and what not tend to make it quit a lot.
Maybe I'll fly the Cessna in Armageddon and the F-20 in combat. That way I can be practicing for the scale meet at the same time. B)
cryptic_stylz - January 26, 2006 11:05 PM (GMT)
And here I was thinking tha i was the only one thinking about armegeddon. I have thought about using my four star 40 for the events and i recently purchased an avenger combat plane that i still havent gotten an engine for. I may use my reconstructed ultra stick  I am so confused i am just going to let the kids choose for me. As long as i can place higer than the Dutchman :parachute: I will be happy there would be no greater joy to beat my instructor (no offense fritz but i am gunning for ya) :clown:
Don Koval - January 27, 2006 02:35 AM (GMT)
I am going to use my Twist :D
And if I fly combat I will use the Thing
Mr.Incredible - January 27, 2006 02:37 AM (GMT)
I will fly a Twist in the events, I have been working on my low Knife edge pass just for the limbo, it still needs a little work but I am getting Twists at a real reasonable price on the black market now so I can afford to stick with it until perfected.
As for Combat I got some strange home made plane that Tony gave me, can't remember what he called it but I plan to see if I can get it flying in the next few weeks so I can get some practice, before taking out Alvin's ugly plane with it.
Stylz, when are you and your giant expectations of defeating Frits coming back to the field to finish your training with the very same Frits.
I don't think you will have much success defeating Frits if you are competeing against him, while he is on the trainer side of your buddy box cord, In fact after your banter you might have a series of unexplaneable incidents resulting in your disqualification due to being out of planes. :hysterical:
cryptic_stylz - January 27, 2006 01:49 PM (GMT)
well Mr. Incredible you are right i am still on the buddy box but i think i am ready to solo i have been going at the pace set for me and i am ready to do some landings and touch and goes. but i have been on the sim a lot and i am pretty good. As for planes i have 6 planes and two boxes of balsa a lot of epoxy and building equipment so i can fix the carnage if it happens (remember the three nextstars and the ultra stick)  i think fritz wouldn't do me that way because he loves a challange but if the weather permits i will be at the field tomorrow with three of my planes. :bigplane: :parachute:
Billyfrost - January 27, 2006 01:51 PM (GMT)
I am looking for a .20-.25 size "junker" airplane for Armeggedon. I only have 1 glow engine an OS .20. This plane will NOT be leaving ACMA field alive. I will be flying my skull bandit for combat.

Maybe the
Phoenix Sonic 25 will work for you. Looks like it may not want to slow down either, but that'll just make for better crashes when you slam it into the runway for the carrier landing. B)

Great look forward to seeing you and the fleet this week end, I didn't mean to pick at you to badly, but after your comments on my "dumb thumbs" I figured you were fair game. The sim is good practice and I'm sure you will be ready for armagedon, still 3 months to go which is plenty of time but you need to show up at the field more often between now and then. I still say defeating Frits is a pretty tall expectation (he has flown in a few a think), but I'll be there laughing at you (oops! I mean with you) when you attempt it.
alvinonline - January 27, 2006 03:31 PM (GMT)
Hey, that Sonic 25 looks too nice to kill.
Looks kind of, sort of like my old Olympic 20L.
I might want one.
If it is anything like the Olympic 20L, it will slow down just fine.
Mike - January 27, 2006 03:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I actually like it too. Looks like a suitable replacement to finally retire the Sportster with.
cryptic_stylz - January 27, 2006 06:24 PM (GMT)
no offense taken its about time someone poked some fun at my expense  I am a good natured guy i can take it. I know i am wading in the deep end with trying to defeat the dutchman but i may as well swing for the fences. I know the dutchman remembers me hand launching his combat plane to the ground costing him some points  yep i think i will go with the stick it will be able to slow to a crawl with the flaps deployed and can make tight loops so you will be seeing it.
Mike - March 9, 2006 09:24 PM (GMT)
Any updates on your Armageddon planes? I'm thinking about ordering up some version of profile ARF rather than trying to use the old Sportster. Or I may suit up for combat only.
Engine and radio gear out of the Cessna would go perfectly in a little .40 size profile job, can get em for around 100 bucks or so.
David - March 9, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
ultra stick or a profile is the way to go. both will land on command almost and are very good at most of everything needed.
Flying Dutchman - March 9, 2006 11:41 PM (GMT)
I will use the very same Scat Cat Quickie 500 plane that I used last year in all the Armageddon events except Combat. It's the one that broke one of its landing gear struts during the carrier landing event. It was repaired with the help of David Lanzo, Frank McFadden, Mr. cryptic_stylz (aka Mike Pratt, who donated a coat hanger to replace the strut), duct tape, tie-wraps, epoxy and CA glue. Yep, it's the same and ONLY plane in competition that did limbo inverted, and the one that got me second place!
Knife-edge limbo? That's stupid and quaranteed suicide... Steve can practice that knife-edge thing all he wants (and MAYBE the plane will survive doing it!) but he ain't THAT good... :D
Of course Mr. cryptic_stylz is the one who handlaunched my combat plane straight into the runway for me last year. (The plane has, and is called, "Balls"). Even after the explicit instructions that I had given him, Mike rendered it totally useless for combat or any flight thereafter.
This year I will be looking for a different plane chunker, one who can follow simple instructions, especially since Mike's now "gunning for the Dutchman"... It wouldn't hurt for you to get some more lessons, Mike, as talk is getting cheaper and time is running shorter...
Your simulator, cryptic_stylz, doesn't do combat, I'm sure. So how can you be prepared for the heart-pounding, gut-wrenching, adrenaline-pumping, sphincter-tightening and bowel-loosening excitement of combat, having to deal with dedicated, seasoned and experienced pilots like Alvin, Billy and me? Andrew? He's got gusto, but no guts... Mike McLaughlin? He could be someone to watch as he's young and will throw caution to the wind. Anthony? Nah, not a problem... Tony? He's still a Combat virgin, as he made Alvin fly in his place last year... David (the Welch one) may do okay, but I doubt it...
The other David (his last name starts with the initial Lanzo...) chickened out last Armageddon, and didn't even enter at all in any of the events! Will he be up to it this year? One can only hope... (Did I just hear him go cluck cluck cluck cluuuuuck....?)
Go ahead, bring it on! :roflmao:
:hysterical:
Justin P. - March 10, 2006 03:44 AM (GMT)
Yeah! Don't worry Frits I will try not to beat you too bad.
I will be flying the Carl Goldberg profile 40 size Edge 540.
Justin :D
Mr.Incredible - March 10, 2006 04:14 AM (GMT)
Who's that threatening Frits? We used to have a guy named Justin P. who flew real good but he quit comin out, I heard he got all tied up playing with little toy boats or something like that. :(
As for me I will do the knife edge limbo or the twist will die trying. For combat I'm going to be the most wreckless pilot in the air, and slice right through an U.G.L.Y. plane like Diarrhea through a cheap diaper. :toiletpaper:
David - March 10, 2006 04:58 AM (GMT)
U.G.L.Y. plane is going down :fuming:
alvinonline - March 10, 2006 05:13 AM (GMT)
Yall got to catch the U.G.L.Y. plane before you can do any sliceing and diceing.
I am going to climb up high and come down out of the sun and go through yall like sheet through a goose. :boxers:

Need some Orbit gum, after that one I think the term is uhhm......."dirty" mouth..
Flying Dutchman - March 10, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
Who? — Justin...
Ah, yes, THAT Justin! Forgot about him. He USED to be good...
Don't worry, he doesn't fly at all any more and has lost his touch, I'm sure.
:roflmao:
Flying Dutchman - March 10, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
Of course I also forgot about Aaron McCloud. He was the one who won 2nd place in Armageddon events last year. Aaron is quiet but very sneaky... <_<
Anthony's 1st place win was a fluke, I'm convinced...
Justin P. - March 10, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
Hey! Just because I have not been out there in a while doesn't
mean I lost my touch.
I guess I will have to prove my point when the
time arrives. HEHEHAHA
Justin

ultra sticks will rule this year, but i did get to see justin's new project tonight. might just be a winner in the making
cryptic_stylz - March 12, 2006 12:49 PM (GMT)
I am still in the process of putting together my combat plane but it will be ready today and i will hopefully have it balanced trimmed and ready by the 15th. with all of the recent tank problems i dunno what i am going to fly but i will be ready. Hey Dutchman I will hand launch yours again for you this year if you need me to :D .

Hey Cryptic, I just started thinking that maybe no body told you that we fly every weekend not just one day a year at armagedon, you should come once or twice and get some stick time in before armagedon.
Billyfrost - March 14, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
I will not be attending Armageddon this year. I am going to Tuscaloosa for Bama Warbirds. I have one of my combat planes for sale if anyone is interested. It is a Tuff Flight Predator. I am selling the Plane, 3 Hitec HS225MG servos, OS .20FP, battery. All for $140.00. If you have a JR radio I will throw in a Hitec 555 reciever for $25.00 more. Anyone interested can E-mail me at billyfrost@gmail.com.

That is true I wish you flew on tuesdays or thursdays as well but i will be there this weekend for some much needed stick time. I hope you will make it out because every time i get there you are M.I.A.

you must not be there very often then, because I am there about 99% of the time on saturday and sunday. Maybe this week is the week I finally see you fly because I will be there both days if nothing changes my plans between now and then. I am begining to believe you don't really exist but are a fictional charector created by Alvin based on an actual RC pilot that used to come to the field about a year ago.
If you are going to the field on Tuedays and Thursdays then sorry you won't see me very often as those are work days for me.
cryptic_stylz - March 14, 2006 06:08 PM (GMT)
you got me i confess i am a figment of alvins wild imagination. The same figment that he has to beat you in combat and take the pool of cash and get one of those little trophies for your demise. I will be there waht time are you going to show up hopefully eary like 11 or 12
Mike - March 14, 2006 06:28 PM (GMT)
Billy, since you're not gonna make it, can I borrow your hard hat? If cryptic and Steve are both flying at the same time, I'm gonna need that.

dream on, I'll be impressed if you actually show up this week end and can make it thru 3 flights without crashing or having some mechanical failure on whatever you are attempting to fly.
I will refrain from talking smack about who will beat who in armagedon, let's just let the planes do the talkin, as Frits said "time is getting short and talk is getting cheap"
1 small piece of advice, don't try and practice to much becuase you want to make sure at least one airplane is still in one piece when armagedon does arrive.
alvinonline - March 14, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
I don't think that I will take part in combat, after all.
It looks to be getting too ruff.
I will just help cook and eat.
Might get me a bottle and just hide out in heavy equipment garage.
Make me a pallet in behind the mowers and be all hid.
See yall at the meeting tonight, them that's coming.
You can find me somewhere around the soft icecream machine.
