Title: Researching gas engines

In my quest to never stop spending money on this hobby, I'm looking into getting my first gasoline powered airplane. I'll start off by admitting I know nothing of gas engines that aren't attached to a transmission and four wheels. Are there any sites with basic information to get me started? I know some of these engines such as DA and ZDZ are great for aerobatic applications, but a heavier engine like a Zenoah is more what you want for a scale job. At least that's what Mr. Frost told me one day. Looking to go with something in a G-38, Quadra 42, US Engines 41 size range, but I have no idea of the pros/cons of any of those engines.
So, where do you suggest I begin?

You would need to find what plane you want first. I would think it would be in the 80" wingspan size at least. You can go with a magneto type engine or a electronic ignition type. Electronic ignition engines can be hand started, are light, and are more expensive than magneto engines. I like the heavier engines for warbirds and the ignition for aerobatic planes. You can also convert a magneto engine to electronic ignition if you want. The best thing to do is pick your plane, then search the forums to find what engine everone likes for that plane.

Plane has been picked. 1/4 scale Cub.
Nah, just kidding, but not far off. Looking at building the Dynaflite 1/4(ish) scale Super Decathlon. 89" wingspan, 16-18 lb. Affordable, simple first build for my large scale experience or lack thereof, and should fly very well. The consensus on rcuniverse.com seems to be the G-38 or US41, I guess I was just looking to see if y'all had any hints or tips on some better brands or ones to avoid. Thanks Billy.

I would go with the G-38. Wish I had known. I just sold a 40cc electronic ignition F.P.E that would have been perfect.

Mike,
I think Billy sold that motor for $15.00 Bucks :o
