I dont know too much about it but i am doing quite a bit of research into them i know a couple of people at the field has some ducted fan fomies and they are awesome i would like to build or buy one but a little larger maybe a 40 sized one if anyone has any links or tips if anyone would like to share some knowledge with me i would be in their debt

Hi cryptic_stylz,
I had a couple of ducted fans back about twenty-five years ago, so my knowledge is slightly dated.

If I were going to do one now, I would first decide on landing speed range.
A real fast one with also fast landing speed, but would be chancy flying it at Irvington Field on the 600 foot runway. Would have to mostly fly it at some old military field like over in Baldwin county.

Or one that would not be so fast on top end, but would have better slow flight and could fly it comfortable at regular club RC fields.

There might be some with both fast top end and can also slow down good, but I don't know for sure.

Perhaps look for one falling into "Trainer Jet" classification for first one.
Hopefully some current "duct head" will check in and put some words of wisdom on us.

The word "foamies" is key here.

Mr. cryptic_stylz most likely wants to fly what Billy and Hagler fly, ducted fan electric jets, not an all-foam, turbine driven jet. (What would keep it from melting?)

Billy gets lots of electric stuff from Hobby Lobby. More questions? I suggest you contact Billy.

Some of it comes down to how much you want to spend. You can get into some bigger ducted fans, for example Billy's me 262. One of the pods would be enough to power a larger airframe but the batteries and speed controllers start getting more expensive!!!! If you go glow you can count on using a lot of fuel with somewhat limited power...

I had a rubber band powered ducted fan one time.
Escapements for control.

Never crashed it.

You can always find some decent deals on the older byron and yellow aircraft jets on RCU

oh yeah i havent seen billys me-262 but i saw the pictures of it. thats a bit out of my league the ol' pockets arent that deep  that is too much power for me. I wonder when he is going to bring it out again I really would like to see it in flight. i will leave the rubberbands to the experts i might shoot my eye out :roflmao: but i am cheking out the links you all have posted.

Hey, Cryptic, one thing about flying those small electric ducted fans...

One less thing to worry about — You won't rip off their training gear!

Well I have found a kit online that has everyting with it (whew didn't know how much you had to spend) I should have it after the holidays. I will be needing some help when i get to installing the electronics and fan. Forget the landing gear me and alvin will work out a deal to leave some tall grass so i will have a soft spot.

Cryptic_stylz, did I tell you that I am also qualified on test flying electrics?

I know you will fly anything with or without wings but i let you have the trim flight. I have to finish my other project first but shold have it together by march I am hoping to get at least 140-150 mph out of it B)
