Wi-Fli

I read all the information at the link and it sounds like the way to go.

Sounds like it will take care of most all radio related problems and limitations we have now.

Neato Neato :newstuff:

Wi-Fli™
The first commercially available digital Spread Spectrum RC system.

Operates on the world wide 2.4GHz ISM band.

RC Radio Link Evolution:

AM - PPM

FM - PPM

FM - ZPCM

FM - SPCM/PCM1024

GFSK - Wi-Fli DSSS 2.4GHz

Wi-Fli is the result of over 4 years of development of a spread spectrum system designed specifically for RC.

This system revolutionizes the way RC systems are used and operated.

Wi-Fli obsoletes manual channel management such as frequency boards, transmitter pounds, multiple crystals etc.

The 2.4GHz band is world-wide. There's no need to borrow radio equipment when traveling to international events.

Eliminates the possibility of interference from someone unintentionally 'using' your channel.

Greatly simplifies racing heats on surface systems. Channels are no longer part of the matrix.

No need to wait for you channel to become free.

The transmitter antenna is a mere 6" long, greatly improving the safety and usability in crowded racing pens.

The receiver antenna is only 4" in height !

The Wi-Fli transmitter module is actually a transceiver (transmitter and receiver) that scans for a free channel when first powered. The Wi-Fli receiver scans the spectrum searching for it's transmitter. The transmitter will never use a channel that is already in use.

The transmitter module can be 'bound' to any number of models. Binding needs only to be performed once when first installing the system.

The Model Avionics Wi-Fli protocol performs dynamic channel allocation, channel connections, forward error correction (FEC), packet error checking and system failsafe.

We have designed a system that is optimized for Radio Control. Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) media acquisition is used for the lowest latency and channel selectivity (as used in mobile phones). Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) coding (as used in Wireless Lan (WLAN)) is used for the best data rate / processing gain trade-off over a narrowband (as used in Bluetooth) digital modulation system.

The transmitter module is compatible with Futaba and Hitec transmitters. A module compatible with JR transmitters will be available soon.

Jon, every time I read one of your posts, I know it is going to cost me money. <_< COOL stuff :D

jonkoppisch - June 11, 2004 01:54 PM (GMT)
Can't wait!!! Hope it doesn't break me :D

I think I will hold off on getting that 9c ..... This thing sounds great

Here's another company getting ready to release a radio that's spread spectrum. It's a car radio but the things it will do is incredible!! Here's the info:

Sensor radio

SENSOR
RC Radio Breakthrough!
The Sensor system is the first two way digital radio control system for the RC hobbyist. Nomadio has integrated today's highly developed cell phone technology into the world of RC and the results will astound you.... How about ...

Realtime reporting of speed, temperature and battery!

The Sensor system supercharges your RC experience by "putting you in the car while you drive it". Just like a NASCAR or Indy car, you get constant information from your car on how fast it's going, how the batteries are holding up, and how hot your engines and batteries are getting.

Sensor can warn you by vibrating like a cell phone when your engine is over temperature. It can say anything you want (even using your own voice!) to tell you when your batteries are getting low or when you reach a certain speed in the straightaway.

You can totally customize how and when it tells you all this information too - Sensor connects to your PC and you can design your own sounds and screens for it.

While we were developing this great new radio system, we solved a lot of problems with old crystal radio technology to make RC easier and more fun. Sensor uses fully digital radio systems and protocols, and it uniquely identifies your car. You'll never ruin anyone else's race by accident and more importantly, nobody else can drive your car or ruin your race.

Since Sensor system is digital, it is expandable. Sensor supports hundreds of virtual "channels" and it can expand up to 32 servos.

Of course, if Sensor didn't provide all the features you expect in a top-shelf RC controller, none of this great stuff would matter. The fact is that Sensor meets or exceeds the specs of the top controllers on the market in every way.

The Sensor system is truly a “ready to run” radio controller system, unlike typical RC radios that force you to buy separate receivers, crystals, batteries, and servos.

You get the controller, rechargeable batteries, a charger, speed, temperature and voltage sensors for your car and of course a reciever/transmitter for your car.

If you add up all the typical parts costs to equip a crystal RC car, you’l be surprised to find that Sensor system actually costs less than a top of the line RTR crystal system.

Even though the Sensor system makes all one-way crystal radios obsolete, it was designed to peacefully co-exist with crystal radios. It’s all done in software, no crystals ever again!

With Sensor in your hand, just turn it on and drive.. smarter!

Here's an additional thread about the radio and some of what it will do:

Basically it is a terrestrial radio that uses the public 2.4GHz band and spread spectrum technology to provide a bidirectional link to the car being controlled. Up to 32 servos, programmable via USB, 9 sensor channels (temp, speed voltage).

What they going to think of next?

Looks like this new breed of RC radios are really going to be something.

With the RC car boys getting in on it, ought to help keep the price down because the will sell a bunch of them.

Neat information Jon, keep us informed, please. :)

Cool, I want one :crying:

I think I will wait for the one with the, I.T.C. switch !!!!!!!!!!!!! :plane_crash:
