Title: Cessna Skymaster
Description: engine thrust settings

flipflop - December 7, 2005 08:13 PM (GMT)
IŽm just started to work on a scale cessna 337 skymaster. My problem is now the thrust setting of the rear engine. I think, the same method used as for settings the front engine ( down and right when standing behind the engine ) ? But IŽm not shure.
Who can give me an answer ? :santa_smiley:

Is the incidence on the plans for the 2nd engine?

Man, I love those planes.

Using some form of logic in my head, I would think you would still want a degree or 2 of right thrust (when looking from front to back, along the crankshaft). Even with a pusher prop, the engine will still be rotating counterclockwise and would kick the rear of the plane to the left (again, looking from front to back) hence requiring the right thrust.

That being said, I am in no way a professional and this advice should probably not be followed without multiple second opinions, are at least one good one.

I had a 'force one' by balsa usa. It was a pusher plane that flew great!!! It seems that the incidence called for on the engine was neutral....

And we must remember that the P-Factor will not as important a consideration with the rear mounted prop engine in this aircraft's configuration.

But that is a good thing in this case I suppose.

I would set it a 0. You can always shim it later with washers.

I forgot to mention, that the rear engine is a push one.
There are no remarks in the documentation, delivered with the construction kit, how the thrust-settings are to be done. I will set the front engine 1.5 ° down and right. Still open are the settings for the rear engine.

I heard about a fellow who built one of those "Skymaster" model one time and used a tractor engine at both ends. He forgot to put a reversed prop on the rear engine.
Could not figure why, with both engines all reved up, it would not go anywhere. ;)

Good one Alvin, lol

I'd set it to 0 like Billy suggested...

I think IŽll try it with 0. The result will be seen after winter time, when the first start will be happen. IŽll post.
I hope to remember AlvinŽs posting, when mounting the props !! :)
