Title: Thinking about joining

x_pinkfloyd_x - September 20, 2005 03:50 PM (GMT)
My name is Travis, I am 17 and I live in Mobile county. With the money I made from the work created by Katrina I bought an arf avistar from hobbytown usa. I know very little about r/c planes except the little bit about assembly I learned as a kid. I have everything I need to fly and I have my plane all put together but I am having engine problems. I heard about yaul's club and wondering if there are people there that can hopefully help me straighten out my airplane. What all should I do and bring if I come and when should I come?huh

Sure pinkfloyd/Travis, bring your stuff on out.
We can get someone to help you.
Andy, our ACMA club president manages HobbyTown USA on Shillengers Road and several fellows working there fly RC.

Best to come to field on a saturday or sunday afternoon.
Usually someone will be there from around noon till dark and will have the field gate unlocked and open.
Just drive on in and introduce yourself and get your plane out and ask if someone will take a look at it.

Welcome Travis as alvin said anyone would be glad to help and meet you. If you get a chance ask for Justin he is the best at getting it right ;)

Hi, Travis!

I'm Frits Jetten, one of the official instructors at Irvington Field. The other one is David Lanzo. We will get you flying straight, for sure!

As Alvin said, come on out on Saturday or Sunday afternoon around 1:00, and I or David (or others) will check out your airplane and get it in the air. Some people at our field will not feel comfortable taking your airplane up, as they are afraid there may be consequences in case of a crash. David and I have nerves of steel, and we don't care — after all, it's not our plane...

Just kidding, Travis! One of the requirements of flying with us is that you have a sense of humor and that you have a very thick skin! :P (Makes me wonder how some people got into our club...) :(

Travis, be sure you get your AMA insurance license as soon as you can. Do it now, as people younger than 19 can get one year for 1 dollar (yes, that's only $1.00!) An AMA license is a REQUIREMENT to fly at our field. You can join our club later, but join the Academy of Model Aeronautics NOW! If you want to know how, let me know (email fjetten@aol.com).

PS I may be old, but I always liked Pink Floyd, so that is a couple of points in your favor... :D

Travis, Perhaps you got one of those brochures at HobbyTown USA (I provide those to them..). It has a map to our field.
If it's too small to read, let me know and I will send you a bigger one. Just email me at fjetten@aol.com.

Hi Travis,
Come on down :) We will be glad to help you

Hi Travis,

Just trash that old airplane and go get you a shiny new Helicopter. You don't have to fly much, you can just hang around like me and talk about flying or work on something. :hysterical:
Look forward to seeing you out at the field.

Buzz

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I set it to email me when someone replies and I never got that email. All of you have given me a great welcome. I will try to get my ama and come out there this weekend if it is not raining like it has been these past few days. Where can I get that $1 a year deal? Is that at Hobbytown?

Guest - September 23, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
Well, HobbyTown can help you, Travis, but if you just email me I will send you the link to sign up online, or, if you don't have a credit card, I'll tell you where to send your dollar...
Email me at fjetten@aol.com...
