Title: A.C.M.A. Field condition after Katrina

Rob Harrison - September 1, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)

Good morning all. Any update on the condition of the field???
As with everyone else, I am trying to save gas. If anyone lives
close to the field, could you please post if everything is O.K. there.

I will need a new roof on our house. Still using a generator for the
house.

Thanks.....

Hi Rob,
Sorry to hear about your house.. Glad to see that you came thru Ok though!! The field took a beating this time. Nothing that can't be replaced though!! Might be a little rough for you guys that like to fly out of the south side of the field ;)

Getting new tin may be a long time to come!!

I still vote for a quick drop down circus/revival tent.

Or maybe a giant popup popout camper like thing.
Every thing would compress down to a flat bed trailer and we could just haul it to safer area next storm.

Tell you one thing, I am not going to be the first one to open the frig freezer.
Was full of burger patties and chicken legs last time I saw in it.
No telling what will come running out of it.

Hope maybe someone went down and emptied it before storm.
I forgot.

So based on the lack of other news, I'm assuming we can still fly at the field this weekend?

yes you can.

Hi All,
I ventured down to field today (Saturday) for first time since hurricane.

Tin and stuff sort of blown all around to the north and west of flying area.
In opposite direction from where debri went during Ivan.

Steve Drake was there flying with wife Margo and little Holly keeping him company.
We braved up seeing if we could stomach cleaning out the frig.
Steve opened up the freezer where the chicken legs and hamburger patties were stored.
Was not as bad a smell as was anticipated.
We cleaned the stuff out of frig and got it thrown in the big dumpster.

Field is very flyable as long as you don't expect any of the electricity powered stuff to work.

The wind sock poles that I had forgot to take down were still there even with the socks still attached and working.

alvinonline - September 5, 2005 02:20 AM (GMT)
Irvington Field condition - Sunday.

Electricity was back on.
Most of the smaller debri was picked up and put in dumpster or stacked by it.

The rest of it was too big to handle until it can be broke down into smaller bits.

Some fellows managed to get in some flying.

Jeff F. dropped by field and said that his place in Coden did not get hurt too bad and that their electricty had just been restored today.
He was looking forward to going home to get good and cooled off.

Tony Farmer, David Lanzo, Jon Koppisch and I went over to Wayne Boudreaux's place early on Sunday morning and cleaned out some of his "barn". And I thought I was a pack rat... :D

I hope Wayne gets that roof lifted off without bashing his vehicles in even more... :o

About me and Wayne looking alike... Wayne's the ugly one with the yellow tinted glasses... :roflmao:

Several people flew this past Sunday. Sam Chest, Jon Koppisch, Tim and Aaron McLeod and Steve Drake flew, perhaps others... Al Ayler showed up with a plane but never got it out of his vehicle...

A couple of Alabama Power Company trucks showed up and repaired the broken line. David flipped the breaker on the pole and power came on in the pavilion...

Alvin fired up his mower with trailer attachment and started dragging off some of the debris, tin and lumber that Katrina had blown around. Several people helped him with that. We need to replace all the ceiling fans, and add one in the kitchen area...

Alvin said that his helicopter was gone, but we're not so sure he's telling the truth. After all, he was there Saturday, and he probably took the chopper out of his shed (which has a big hole in the roof where the tin is missing) and took it home. You can never be sure if his stories are true events or - well - stories!... ;)

Besides, he didn't seem very upset like I would be if someone had taken my chopper...

alvinonline - September 6, 2005 01:24 AM (GMT)
Well...It's gone and I did not get it.

It was there Saturday and was gone Sunday.

No use to get upset. I could have evacuated it. :hmm:

Be funny if someone shows up with it looking for help with flying.

Or find it hanging in hobby shop, for sale.

Finally found a gas line short enough for me to get in it.
Had to get the Preminum stuff for about $2.89 a gallon, I think.
Got some for the club lawnmower also.

Managed to get the front yard grass cut at field and made it look better.

Alvin,

I'm sorry to hear about the chopper. I thought you were just kidding. Might check at the local Chevron/BP/Conoco.....may have traded your chopper for gasoline.

p.s.
I will check the local pawn shops :banghead:

David - September 6, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
what the heck!!!!!!! your chopper is gone
i dont know what to say about that but be on the look out! Alvin you are welcome to fly any of mine you like.

alvinonline - September 6, 2005 03:49 AM (GMT)
I went by the sheriff's office today and made a report out.
Have to have a police report of the loss to claim on the AMA insurance, and I have called them and they are sending me the paper work to fill out.

Going to meet some sheriff deputy at field tomorrow, they want to dust for prints and in case someone cut themselves climbing in threw the torn back tin roof.

This is just what I did not need to worry me on top of all the hurricane related stuff and field damage.

I hope that ever who got it, tries to fly it and it attacks them.
They will wish that they had stole the plane instead of the chopper.

I tried to make out that my stole helicopter did not bother me, but I did not sleep a wink last night thinking about it.
Not the chopper so much as just the thought of some low life messing around where they ought not be and fooling with things not theirs.

Mike - September 6, 2005 04:17 AM (GMT)
Well that sucks. What kind of neighbors to the west do we have these days? Knowing they wouldn't be able to fly the thing anyway, or even get it running more likely, I can't believe anyone would take that. :(

Guest - September 6, 2005 06:03 AM (GMT)
strongexplative Alvin, I hate to hear about your loss.
I can't stand a freggin thief either.
I have an idea just who the kids are back in the woods that might have helped themselves.
With school still out for the storm, they have nothing better to do.
I know one of the dads and will have a talk with him tomorrow and he will beat the confession out of those boys. Or they will rat out who was messing around at field.
Your heli now and who knows what will be next if we don't get it nipped in bud right away.

TONY F - September 6, 2005 02:13 PM (GMT)
HEY ,ALVIN THAT WAS A GOOD IDEAL COMING THE SHERIFF, HOPR THEY FIND THOSE :clown: MIGHT BE THE POLICE THAT STOLE IT.

Flying Dutchman - September 6, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
Funny thing happened today on the way to Tillman's Corner's Auto Save Tire & Automotive Store...

Seems like someone dropped off Alvin's "Fly Hard" Raptor helicopter. :o Not sure where it had been, but who knows, it may have gotten there by way of a pawn shop, or perhaps someone tried to barter for some automotive repair. :D

Anyway, Alvin showed up and spotted it in Tony's office. He was quite happy when he saw it  but he pretended not to care... ;)

After he had his fill of M&Ms and coffee, Alvin loaded the chopper in his truck and headed to the field, to mow some grass... Wonder if he'll fly his heli today?

Truly a great ending to what started out to be a very sad and mysterious story!

TONY F - September 7, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
 Funny thing happed at the Auto Save today, Fritz showed up not once...but twice today. After talking about 30 minutes I looked over his shoulder and there it was.....Alvin's raptor!! I couldn't believe my eyes. We were both so shocked to see it..it was right there in front of our eyes. After 30 minutes of discussing how the chopper had arrived Alvin showed up. He was so HAPPY to see his chopper. Seem like it was a set up Fritz...P.S where were you today Lanzo? :roflmao:

alvinonline - September 7, 2005 01:25 AM (GMT)
Yep...It is a real mystery alright.

The Mobile County Sheriff Department wants me to sign some warrents or papers or something tomorrow.

The detective said that they had some good leads/suspects and this crime would come under some kind of special looting during a disaster law and the punishment would very severe.

I sure would like to be peeping around the corner when the crooks get picked up. <_<

Flying Dutchman - September 7, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
Me too, Alvin!

I'm so happy you got your chopper back!

Where is that Lanzo person?

Maybe he has already been picked up by the law.

Looks like the offer of a new ID for turning State's Witness was taken advantage of by a couple of the suspects.

You really have to watch those instructors and safety officers. I never have trusted them as far as I could throw them! They have those beedy eyes, you know.

Flying Dutchman - September 9, 2005 02:34 PM (GMT)
You are right on trach, Alvin! We all KNOW who the main instigator of this caper was! :D

I was too old to get up to that hole in the roof.

Tony was too short and chunky. He was worried that once he got in through the hole he wouldn't be able to climb back out!

That only leaves that tall, skinny one...

:roflmao:

Lester - September 10, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
Trying to help locate him.

I think that I was at field when this caper happened.
I remember wondering why Frits and Tony where climbing up on the shed roof with a tape measure and then climbing back down to check the measurement across David's backend. :o

alvinonline - September 10, 2005 07:10 PM (GMT)

At last...We get a good image of just how this chopper caper went down.
They probably had not worked at anything this hard in ages.
