Alan,
I could not view the pictures on your site because you have them linked to your computer's hard drive. :(
You can see them because you are viewing your site on your computer.
(I and many others have made this mistake also)
You need to upload the pictures to where your html/htm file is located on the web server so everyone looking at your site will get the pictures also.
If the pictures are in bitmap format, probably are big file size, convert them to jpeg and compress to reasonable file size for people like me who are on dialup so that it will not take ages for me to see the pictures.
You are off to a good start and I look forward to visiting your site often to see what you and the rest of rc group in Malta are up to.

hmm pics aren't showin up yet.. least for me
alvinonline - August 6, 2005 03:41 AM (GMT)
The pictures are still linked to their location on Alan's computer harddrive.
Example link of first picture on Alan's site:
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Frank/Desktop/cup/22226666.jpg
It links to the picture location on his C drive.
I am sure Alan can see the pictures just fine because he is viewing his site on his computer and pathway is working for him because his C drive is available to him.
Easiest way to fix it would be to upload picture 22226666.jpg to same directory on his web server that his xhtml file is located.
Then replace the link to picture with just 22226666.jpg
Or more orderly way to do it:
Make a sub-directory/file on his web server named pictures.
Then upload picture to this sub-directory/file.
Then replace picture link with pictures/22226666.jpg
Do for all the pictures.
Would then work.

Alan,
You may not be able to.
Where you have your website hosted at freewebs.com, looks like you are useing one of their pre-made site templates and their onsite web page editors.
Probably can't change backgrounds on the pre-made templates.
Would have to change templates to something closer to what you are looking for.
Look around real good where you do the editing for your website and see if there is any option for changing backgrounds. there are several backgrounds used on your site from what I could see. I don't think that you can though.
There may be the option to change your website from the menue driven WYSIWYG editor to pure HTML script code. Then you edit the HTML code to make changes to site and all things will be possible.
But, you really really have to know some HTML then and willing to learn more in order to edit your site and not mess it up beyond recovery.
Once you convert site to pure HTML, usually you can't switch it back to WYSIWYG editor.
Suggest that you register for another site at freewebs.com and use it for testing.
Then you can try things out before doing similar to your real site.

Please don't use Bravenet free website hosting.
They really load your site with their ads and popups.
All the free website hosting places work about the same if you use their online editir and pre-made templates. You will probably run into the same situation with them as you have now about wanting to change background.
Let me see if I can remember my account and password for the test site I did at freewebs and I will look for how to change backrounds.
I will post back here later today or tomorrow on what I find out.

OK Alan,
I found where you can change site background on websites hosted at freewebs.com.
Go to your "Site Manager" page.
Select one of your pages to edit.
At top of edit page, you will see where you can change page background like on my test site below.

Click on Change Background Image.
A little popup window will open (see image below for like on my test site) where you can choose a background from freewebs stock of preloaded background. Must be hundreds of them.
Or you can upload a background you have on your computer.

Play around with it. The new background will only be on the whole page and any tables within the page may still have the template background in them and this might not be to your likeing.
Also, I don't know if selecting a new background will take affect on all your site's pages (global change) or if you will have to select the new background for each page.
I did not check into it that far.
Good luck, I will be looking to see how it goes.

OK, that procedure should do it.
Try out the background changer and see how it works.
I don't think you can break it.
There is a link "Remove Background Image" in the little window where you select the new backgrounds. Click on it and your site will revert back to original template background.
