I THINK IT IS A LIGHTING

alvinonline - March 15, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
Good try Alan, but nope, not correct.

The "Lighting" had two engines with the props up front.

Looks like a Curtiss XP-54 - Swoose Goose

ALANXP - March 15, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
i think is form japan

It might be, but looking closely at the wings, there seems to be a pattern in the circle - a logo perhaps. I think Alvin "doctored" the picture to cover the logo on the nose to make it harder to figure out - make you think it's a Japanese plane. I could be wrong though.

quick guess:

Stearman-Hammond Y

Chazon - March 16, 2005 01:31 AM (GMT)
ok my second guess is a Skycraft 446?

alvinonline - March 16, 2005 01:38 AM (GMT)
hehehe

No correct guesses yet and there are no "Meat Balls" :meatball: on this plane.

Some aircraft information:
First flying trials in July 1943.
The first version, armed with four 13,2 mm and one 20 mm Hispano automatic cannon. 54 aircraft were manufactured and delivered between December 1945 to December 1946.
The J 21 was one of the first aircraft in the world to be fitted with an ejection seat. The J 21 was also built in a jet version powered with the de Havilland Goblin engine (J 21R).
The J 21A-1s were all retired at the beginning of 1949. * It was never a success as a fighter, but those designated A 21 (A = Attack, ground attack) or even B 21 (B = Bomb) made good service. They had the same armament as the fighter version, but also provision for carrying rockets and bombs with a bomb aiming sight, as well as two RATO bottles.
A jet powered version continued in service till 1956.
But it had very limited range, with a maximum endurance of 46 min. With wing tip tanks it was increased to 100 min.
