Some aircraft information:
First flying trials in July 1943.
The first version, armed with four 13,2 mm and one 20 mm Hispano automatic cannon. 54 aircraft were manufactured and delivered between December 1945 to December 1946.
The J 21 was one of the first aircraft in the world to be fitted with an ejection seat. The J 21 was also built in a jet version powered with the de Havilland Goblin engine (J 21R).
The J 21A-1s were all retired at the beginning of 1949. * It was never a success as a fighter, but those designated A 21 (A = Attack, ground attack) or even B 21 (B = Bomb) made good service. They had the same armament as the fighter version, but also provision for carrying rockets and bombs with a bomb aiming sight, as well as two RATO bottles.
A jet powered version continued in service till 1956.
But it had very limited range, with a maximum endurance of 46 min. With wing tip tanks it was increased to 100 min.
