Title: Another Question Please
Description: About starter helicopter.

I hope it is alright for a forum guest to ask more than one question a day.

Most forum/boards do not allow guest to even ask anything. Thanks for your friendly group.
I already inquired about starting airplane in the Airplane Beginner Area I think. Most interested in learning airplanes right now, but helicopters seem to be some challenge after learning to fly regular planes.

While I am looking at airplane kits at stores and online ordering places, might as well look at some helicopter things at same time.

Need an idea as to what is good brand to go with and maybe the medium size ones would be best to start with?
Don't want to spend all the child's inheritance on just the repair parts going to need for sure.

Thanks for your time.

Howard,

I would suggest a Raptor 30 with an OS 32 engine to match. You need atleast a six channel radio, and standard sized servos will work but get ball bearinged ones. The is one of the best flying helicopters for the money. The price on this bird is around $279.95 at Hoobytown USA. With all the fixings to go with it you're probably looking at around $600.00.

Hope this helps,

Justin is pretty much right, The Raptor is the most popular, easiest to get part for, easy to work on and set up. The V-2 raptor was released about year ago which is a improved version of the original. The Original has been discontinued but they will be making parts for it for some time, over 10,000 of the originals were sold and Thunder Tiger has vowed to support them.

The Raptor can also be purchased as 50 size (MID-SIZE) More money. You can also start with a 30 size Raptor and latter upgrade it to a 50, they make a kit that sells for around $90.00 to make the conversion.

As far as engines, the OS-32 is the easiest to set and maintain and has good longevity and a fare re-sell value. Coming on strong behind it is the Thunder Tiger 39. The engine has more power than the OS-32, a little harder to get tuned in.

If your going to get into this hobby wether it be airplane or helicopter the best place to spend your money is in the radio, if you buy a 6 channel and with in a couple of months your going to want an 8 channel. I recommend to start with an eigth or better. In the Futaba line the new 9C and in the JR line the 8103 are the ones to have. with either of these radios you will never have the need to upgrade unless you just want to. Both have airplane and helicopter programmimg in them and will fly either well. I know we can buddy box the futaba at our field but not sure about the JR.

Another advantage of buying a good radio is if you decide to get out of the hobby you can get most of you money back out of a higher end radio. all those that purchased a 6 channel are looking to upgrade to a better radio.

On a final note, you don't have to start with airplanes to fly helicopter. If you end goal is to fly helos start with helos, with helicopters the first thing you have to learn is to hover, everything you do with a helicopter starts and ends with a hover and all airplane skills arn't going to help much to learn it.

Good luck with what ever you do.

The only problem with the thunder tiger 39 is that they like the high nitro more than the lower nitro from what I hear. So, if you get the thunder tiger thirty and you use low nitro you will have to have more patience wiith the breakin and tuning processes.

Thanks for telling me the prices.

Really a little less than i was thinking.

Probably get the OS engine for helicopter when I make my mind to try them out.
I have found from several places that OS is recommended by most people.

Will wait to see how the airplane OS 46 works for me.

Quick Help, would my helicopter do this maybe. :blueheli:
