Mode One - Rudder and Elevator on left stick, Aileron and Throttle on right stick.
Mode Two - Rudder and Throttle on left stick, Aileron and Elevator on right stick.
Mostly, some old timers fly Mode One, but just about all RCers now use Mode Two.

Years ago, when radio control first started, the throttle was controlled by the right stick.
Now, almost all RC pilots use what's now known as Mode 2, and the old way is called Mode 1.
Some people (really old ones... ) still fly in Mode 1, but new pilots fly in Mode 2.
In Mode 2, the control functions are:
Channel 1 - Ailerons, on the right stick (left, right)
Channel 2 - Elevator, on the right stick (forward, back)
Channel 3 - Throttle, on the left stick (forward, back)
Channel 4 - Rudder, on the left stick (left, right)

Instead of having separate surfaces for flaps, with "flaperons" the ailerons can be both dropped down for flap affect as well as working in opposite directions for the aileron function.
