Hi,
I read the good article about what is the best engine.

I lucked out and already have a os .46 still new in box I bought couple of years back.

Now, please could anyone give me some help or suggestions for best plane for me to learn on and would be good match for the os 46.

I really do not want to do much building and want to get it ready to go as quick as possible. I don't mean one ready to taxie out of box. Willing/able to do some assembly and installing equiptment.

Do not want to spend over say $200 dollars for the plane cause I know I have to buy a radio and some other starting equiptment. Already got engine and basic tools also have the 12 volt starter motor.

About all I can think to ask this time.
Will check back next few days for any kind help and advice.

What engines do the Avistar and the Super Star need to fly OK for beginner?

The avistar and the superstar need a 40-50 sized engine. The OS 46 engine you have is the best engine for both of those airplanes.

Hey, I remember you.

You beat me in the Armageddon Fun-Fly that time. :P

Nice to see that you are still fooling with the RC hobby back home in Norway.

Hope you can come back over to state side one day.

I like plenty of horse power up front (can always come back on the throttle stick, but who does?) , but agree that beginner should not over do it.
Those trainer planes can shed a wing or tail if get going too fast.

The OS .46 AX is the replacement for the being discontinued OS .46 FX.

Could not find anything on a OS .46 AXi.

A couple of OS engines have FI after engine model name, but they are bigger than .46 size and the FI means they are fuel injected. :twocents: :twocents:

The only place that I have seen, that has the .46FXi, is on the Hobbico 46 Select RTF Trainer.... It's the one with the AFS ( Active Flight Stabilization ) ,and the Speed Brakes on it...... Don

The difference between the Fx and the Ax is that the Ax has a different muffler that is suppodsed to be quieter and give the engine a little more power. Now, I don't know how that is going to work, becaues what I ahve always understood is that the engine needs more fuel and more exhaust to get more power. The Ax is also supposed to have a better kind of metal used for the piston and sleeve. That is the only differences that I know of between the two engines. As far as I know that carb, the head, and the crankshaft are going to be the same as the Fx.

the avistar trainers are a good beginer plane and they com in arf form im an instructor and highly recomend this plane for your 46 fx. it comes in three diferent vesions with three different wings being the only difeance inthe planes design

How does the Avistar compare to the Thunder Tiger Trainer? The Thunder Tiger has a flat bottom wing.

You can learn about as well on one as the other.
If you are a slow learner with maybe less developed eye-hand reflexes, the Thunder Tiger Trainer might be best because of high lift FB wing and slower flight speed. But, most people quickly out grow it and get bored with it's subdued manuverablity.

The Avistar with simi-symmetrical airfoil wing is almost as stable as the TT Trainer.
More manuverable and little faster on same engine.
You will not out grow it as fast because it is capable of lots of manuvers and good inverted flight.

From what I have seen, most beginners are better served by the Avistar.
Especialy if you will have some experienced help.
If one is going to learn all on there own (not recomended) the TT Trainer might be best because of it's slightly better stability and slower flight capability.

I started out with an Avistar equipped with an OS .46 AX... Was a fun airplane to fly untill I suffered a radio hit while flying... I'd reccomend it to anyone who's wanting to learn how to fly. Also, Realflight G3 is a great sim for the computer.. :)
