Well Mr. Mustangman, if you gonna guess...Guess real good I reckon.

I think you got them stumped this time, Alvin.

It looks like some kind of glider trainer or something, but the wings don't look big enough to be a glider.
No markings on it either to give me any clue as to where to start looking.

I will guess anyway.
I think Mustang was kinda close but not right on.
Here is my guess:
"Fartfignutens Mk II"

jonkoppisch - December 10, 2004 03:41 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, I'm guessing it's a glider ;)

David - December 10, 2004 04:06 PM (GMT)

Allvin,

If I rememeber correctly, #7 is an experimental plane was built in the early 1950s it was single seat, no wheels (landed on water or grass). :o Power was by a small jet engine located behind the pilot with intakes on both sides. exhaust was thru the V-tail on top of the fuesage. It's primary mission was to provide low level reconninance over Japan's rice paddies which cover thousands of square miles. It's water cabability allowed landing in the paddies without rice damage, check out suspested activity , and depart with a water take off run of few hundred feet. :D Before being put in full scale production it's design use was superseded by the import of Air Boats powered by V8 Cadilac engines from Florida. I believe the designation was RPOV-1EXP :ouch: :ouch:

JetBuddy,
You doing real good and might be getting warm.

Wrong name for aircraft though.

No "Boobie Prize" for you yet.

Been five days now and no identification. Maybe I picked one too hard for yall. Well...Keep at it, I might have to start thinking of how long to leave a picture up before telling yall what it is. Be a while yet though.

David - December 15, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
is the a powered aircraft or a glider of some sort?

I reckon it could be a glider if the engine quit running.

With that little bittie wing, would not be much of a glider though.

Take some mighty good termals to keep it up.

Keep on researching. :banghead:
This is going to be so easy when you figure it out.

Osirus711 - December 15, 2004 01:50 PM (GMT)
kinda looks like a supermarine 508

Osirus711 - December 15, 2004 01:53 PM (GMT)
....and sounds even more like the supermarine 505. The 505 had no gear and was designed to land on "soft" decks. But to my knowledge they never built a prototype, only modified it and went with the 508.

Good try, Andrew.
But, no boobie prize.

Shows you are really trying though.
The Supermarine 508 does have some similar design characteristics.

Almost a week now and no correct identification.
