Title: Which basic and aerobatic trainer?

Biggles71 - November 19, 2004 09:12 AM (GMT)
Hi group,

I'm just about to start again in RC model flying... Did a bit of gliding years ago and builded my own homebuilt aircraft (Rutan Canard). Total flying experience in the real stuff +7000hrs. I know... not that it matters flying RC models!

However have some questions:

I'm looking for a trainer to refresh my RC model flying. Originally I was thinking of building a low wing trainer (Cermark Graduate, Super Sportser...), but maybe I should stick to a classical high wing trainer...?

I did a search on the net and came out with the following high wing trainers:

Kyosho Calmato
Hangar 9 Arrow
Vmar Hornet
Hobbico Nexstar
Nexstar Avistar
Alpha40 trainer

I'm looking for a good trainer aircraft, which whould be able to do some fine aerobatics after I'm back up to speed. I don't mind doing some construction (ARF). I have some help of experienced guys, at the local RC model club where I live here in Dubai (U.A.E.).

Which one of the above (or any other ones), would you guys recommend...?

Last but not least, local shops have preety good deals on the Futaba 7C, 7ch radios. Any good or bad things about them, I should know....?

Thanks a lot for your answers...

I like the Hobbico Avistar. Great trainer for learning to fly and general aerobatics.

The Futaba radios are great and will serve your purpose just fine.

All the better if you have local support for Futaba brand, such as extra servos, accessories, parts, and service.

If available, OS engines are very good as for ready to run right out of the box and are relatively trouble free in operation and adjustment.

Not sure what fuels are available in your area, but something with a touch of nitro methane (5% - 15%) will make a little more power, idle better, and easier starting. For engines like OS which are made to run best with some nitro in fuel.

If you use an engine made in europe especially, they are generally made to run correct on no to little nitro.
Of course, engine manufacturer fuel and glo plug recommendation usually some where in the ball park.

Wishing for you, best of success.
