Hey guys,
I'm from Tuscaloosa and will be moving down to Robertsdale in December. I'm a member of WAAM here and want to find a good active club down there.
I've driven by the Foley field many times and have seen ZERO people there. Does anyone go to that field?
What fields are around that area? I know there is you guys in Mobile, as well as the Battleship, and the field in Foley. Are there any others?
I still need to check out your club, kinda weary about a paved runway, but it seems you guys are shut down for a while.
Thanks!
Michael Chang
Hi Michael,
Welcome to area.
Foley club:
That group has been around for a long time.
Should be some flying there. Is that the field located behind a shopping center?
I know that a lot of their members are snow birds :penguin: and have probably not flown down for winter yet.
There are a couple more groups with flying sites in Baldwin county.
I know that one group uses one of the old navy OLFs at Silverhill.
I will try to round up some information for you or get someone with more knowledge to post here with the skinney.
Anyway, you would be welcomed at my ACMA field in Irvington or at the Battleship club.
Later,
Alvin
Thanks man...
Where exactly is the Battleship field? Is it at the battleship or near it?
Also, isn't wind bad at that field?
Thanks again!

Michael,
Wind is not any particular problem at battleship field because it is located way up in north end of Mobile Bay and not down on coast. On a hot day, they be wishing for some of those cool sea breezes.
We fly off the deck of battleship. :o
For real, the LARC club has flown at Battleship Park for at least twenty years.
They have a very nice setup with pavillion and paved runway.
Flying site is located just to the West of park parking lot down on South end.
Just to West of where the submarine USS Drum is sitting up on dry land.
It is a morning field because pilots are faceing West, but can be used any time of day.
Club members have a pass to get them in park without paying the $2.00 entrance fee. Other guest or visitor flyers pay the fee and if have AMA membership can get in a flight.
Because our ACMA club field's use is sort of up in the air right now because of hurricane Ivan storm debris desposal center use. Our RC Scale event is being held at Battleship field this Saturday, Oct. 30. Open at daybreak with me cooking breakfast and BBQing lunch later on. If you are down in area, please drop by. Don't know what size croud will be there with the recent change in venue.
On a bright note...We now have use of Irvington Field back on weekends and maybe will soon be back to normal full time field availability.
Information on the Baldwin County flying field locations is still a work in progress. ;)
They kind of a clannish bunch over there and is hard to find information. My sister lives in Fairhope so I know.
And they don't think much of us Mobilians either. JKing Jking :P
