Title: SUNDAY FLYING
Description: What a great day!!
CRASH 22 - January 5, 2009 02:56 AM (GMT)
:bigplane: I had a great time at the field today.
The Pterodactyl flew good.
The DOOMED wing was DOOMED. Landed in the water.
We tied some streamers to balloons. A lot of people went after it. I 'm glad no one hit each other trying to get it.
Mr. Walker had installed real rockets under the wings of his Mustang. Jon K. was the test :pilot: pilot. After the first rocket fired GREAT. Jon decided to shoot down the other Mustang that was flying about. Lucky for Mike, He was landing at the time, but Jon took the shot anyway. I wish we had that one on video.
As if that wasn't enough, Al A. Let me shoot sky rockets at his cub. I came really close a couple of times.
Tony did a great job cooking the food. :sturthepot: I hated he lost his Texan. It crashed into the power lines as Jon was taking his SHOT at Mikes Mustang.
We put glow sticks on the Pterdactyl and made several night flights on it. :spin:
Henry W. and Alvin let lose on the Pterdactyl with a large round of sky rockets. :yickes:
Henry was having a blast. I have never heard him laugh so hard. Russell Almost hit it TWICE. We all had a good time.

Yep, Henry had great fun doing the pyro thing.
He did not have much of a choice, it was that or take William to littlemullet Russells for a couple of 1/3 #er burgers with Onion Ring sides.
They were talking and could not decide on who would buy, so they stayed and shoot fireworks.
Yep, little chub bud was all depressed over the demise of his dearly beloved Mentor plane.
Good thing I had brought him a two pound chocolate bar. When all else fails to make you feel better, eat more chocolate and enjoy the guilt rush.
It was called a "Yo Mama's Chocolate Bar", named that way because yo mama always said "Don't Ever Eat That Much Chocolate At One Time".
I was late arriving, but Tony and Russell had saved me back a "Sampler Platter" of the meat they had cooked earlier. The chicken was a little under cooked for my pallet, but the beef and something else were just perfect.
No, really, it was all very delicious and well prepared, Tony can do a mean scald to any type meat on that grill. And Russell is a tremendous kitchen helper by cleaning up good and with food prep and he can do some good cooking also. Accolades to all and to Robert for the Punch with a Punch.

"Streamers on Balloons"... now that sounds like fun! :hyper:
Maybe some sort of Fun Fly event could stem from this idea. Ponder for a moment...
Helium filled ballons tied to long strings attached to the vent pipes in the field. Take off, try to pop all the balloons, land for time. Hmmm?

Let Frits tell you his thoughts on such an event.

Sounds easy enough, huh?
Well, TJR, at the old field on Dawes Road we did that once for a fun fly (before it became Armageddon.)
There were NINE contestants, each having FIVE tries at a balloon, tethered on a 40 ft. string.
The ONLY person who came close was me with my trusty ol' Eagle 2 trainer. But I didn't hit the balloon either! The right wing hit the string, which did not break. So as the string sliced through the wing about an inch or so (literally), the plane was dragged into the ground and crashed. :yickes:
However, with the help of some of my fellow contestants, some borrowed parts and lots of glue, I was back in the air about 20 minutes later for the next competition event!

We should probably start a new thread if people want to talk about events, but I'd like to see the spot landing come back. In past years we did the climb and glide with a spot landing combined, but just a dead stick spot landing would be a good one. Much quicker than the climb and glide version but still a good test of skill. Plus the inevitable fun to watch tip stalls as people try to stretch 20' of altitude into 300' of ground to cover. :D

I feel your pain, Tony, but I bet that it was really an electrifying moment for that Mentor plane as it got clotheslined by that power line. :yickes:
