Title: Last Sunday Flying...

Flying Dutchman - November 24, 2008 06:55 PM (GMT)
Not too much going on at the field last weekend. Saturday was rather dull...

Reasons? Windy, cold, a ball game, perhaps a NASCAR race, and the Pensacola Jets Fly-in was going on...
In spite of this Roger H. (and a few club more members) made it to Nevarre and he took these pictures. Thanks, Roger!

On Sunday a few people showed up.
Mike had rebuilt his Irish Axe and flew a successful test flight, as shown in this video.

Alvin had a couple of nice flights with his renovated Raptor Titan...

David L. (you know — one of our ex-instructors...) showed up.

David was trying to get back in the groove by instructing himself on his son's trainer...

But Mike Mc. and Andrew provided all the action by chasing each other around the field again. They came close a few times...

Tony has not been allowed out to the field in so long :sturthepot: that he is not aware of all the neat new stuff my Titan will do now, with those CY Radix 600 main blades.

Ah, we had plenty of room. B)

Great fun, I had no idea the people really tried to hit each others airplanes. Must use throw away junker airplanes, I could watch some of that action. :yickes:

Now I want a jet and a helicopter, but better stay realistically in my ballpark with some little simple starter airplane. While browsing around looking at all the model items for sale, I noticed the price of the more upscale end of hobby. :(
Do the jets go as fast as they look to?

  <_<

I read that the AMA puts a 200 mph limit on jets in the US for safety reasons.
There are unofficial claims that turbine jets have flow at close to and at more than 300 mph.

Here are some records, as recorded by the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale).
(A couple of them may surprise you!)

FAI world speed record for an electric model is 176 mph.

The world's fastest RC piston-engined aircraft exceeds 213 mph.

FAI world record for fastest control-line model is 246 mph, achieved using a jet turbine.

The world's fastest RC pure jet model flies at 272 mph.

The world's fastest model aircraft is a glider, a specialized slope-soarer being flown off the top of tall mountains in the US by pilot Kyle Paulson. During recent speed trials, it was timed at 301 mph.

On the contrary, I use only my best planes for such flying. Very precise one must be, you can't just go using any plane you've already smashed into the ground once or twice (inverted).

I added some pictures and videos to the PictureBasket album...
