Title: District Jamboree
plane crazy - April 20, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
Are we hosting a Jamboree this year? I haven't heard much about it but I have been very busy. If it is not planned by now, I'm sure it is too late unless it is in the Fall. :)
TONY F - April 20, 2008 02:01 AM (GMT)
There will not be a jamboree this year. :banghead: :crying:
alvinonline - April 20, 2008 07:07 AM (GMT)
According to Tony Stillman (AMA Dist V V.P.), no Jamborees in Dist V at all this year.
Maybe in 2009.
jonkoppisch - April 20, 2008 12:38 PM (GMT)
I guess we'll just have to do our own!!! ;)

 south alabama jam and fly.
Flying Dutchman - April 21, 2008 02:11 AM (GMT)
If we do, we cannot advertise it like last year's and put one on like we did last year.
The ones we did the last two years were hosted by AMA District 5 and ACMA. AMA kicked in several hundred dollars toward food and provided a bunch of free Jamboree T-shirts, etc.
We CAN put on a special fly-in, of course, but we can't call it a "Jamboree"...

:bigplane: Enzo hit it with a coke (beer) bottle. [ GOOD SHOT]
:hysterical: Then Jeff harponed it with a spear. :yickes: I hope somebody got some pictures. :roflmao:
 All the good stuff happens after Dark.
BenHere - April 21, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
We could have it in June... and call it a JUNEBoree... I'm sure if District doesn't want to sponsor, (or help) we could scrape together a few hundred dollars from SOMEWHERE.... I don't even know what Jamboreee is... but.. sounds like fun..

It isn't that we need to SCRAPE for money. Our fly-ins usually always break even or give a profit.
The Jamboree we are talking about is put on by the AMA and is for all of AMA District 5, all six states in the District... ACMA had the first one in 2006 (Don was the Coordinator), and I did the last one in 2007. District 5 had three Jamborees last year, in three different states.
They were a little bigger than our normal 2-day events, as it turned out.
We can have a normal summer fly-in, but someone has to put it in front of the membership at a club meeting to get the approval, the funding, plus the cooperation and gifts from HobbyTown, the volunteers, etc...
jonkoppisch - April 21, 2008 05:02 PM (GMT)
Here's the response that Tony sent me.. NOTE that he says the clubs will be able to APPLY to hold the event..
Jon:
No, we are not. The reason is that it takes about a year to plan it. Last year was an election year, and I was not going to be so bold to assume that I would be re-elected… So, we will be working toward having 2 or 3 in 2009. I will be announcing details later this summer on how to apply to have an event at your local field.
Thanks!

Next club meeting will be May 13...
There's nothing to putting on an event! Really! I have it all written down, if you like to read. The same bunch of volunteers that always helps will make sure that the lucky guy who volunteers to be the Event Coordinator will be successful! It never fails!
(I don't want to do it, because I have done it a time or two. Besides, I'm Tony's "assistant" for the Warbird & Scale Fly-in this weekend...)
It's time for some of you younger members to actually get off your butts and DO SOMETHING for YOUR club!)
So, who wants to be the one to head up this proposed fly-in that y'all want so badly?
How about YOU, BenHere....................? :o
Yeah, YOU! :D
BenHere - April 21, 2008 11:55 PM (GMT)
WELLLLLLL.. i aint SKEERED.. :yickes: but, i have NOOOOO idea where to start. SOOOOOO if you'll help.. i'm sure we can make it happen.. Sounds like a lotta people wanna do it. WE can throw it out at the next meeting, see if we can get club approval, and see how many Co-co-co adminstrators we can SHAME into helping. :o
jday - April 22, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
Something everyone may want to think about before the club meeting is wether we would have a few competative events during the fly in. Not a whole day though

alvinonline - April 22, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
I think that yawl have all gone freaking event happy.
Why not try to get the two already committed to done.
It is too dam hot in middle of summer and flies carry off the food.
Maybe fall at earliest.
BenHere - April 22, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.... The Head Honcho said it takes a YEAR to plan these things... so, i suppose we better get started.. (planning)... we can have it in the fall, or ANYTIME ya'll want... (as long as it doesn't interfere with Football, or Nascar, or World Series, or Piano Recitals, or MARTY GRAW, or Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4th weekend, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Hunting season, fishing tournaments, Golf touranaments, and.. uhhhhhh WORK)
Flying Dutchman - April 22, 2008 11:45 AM (GMT)
No, Ben, it takes a year to plan an AMA Jamboree, as several states are involved.
We can plan ours in a month or so, right after it's voted on at a club meeting... No need to be skeered. We'll all help, as I said.
As far as competition events, that's what a FUN FLY is for (Armageddon). It's normally not done during a FLY-IN. Except Combat at Noon, perhaps! We've done that before.
A summer event is fine with me. EVERYBODY flies in the summer.
Only Alvin and the old people can't take the heat...
BenHere - April 22, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
I'm still a little confused.... as to why (if the Jamboree is an annual event, and it takes a year to plan..) the District VP didn't begin to make plans.. (regardless of who the NEXT vp would be) Do All the districts have them?
Flying Dutchman - April 23, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
There's more involved than meets the eye, BenHere, and, yes, I too stay confused...
There are locations in the AMA District to pick (do remember that the District 5 Jamboree is for all AMA clubs in SIX states; AL, GA, TN, FL, SC and Puerto Rico), getting commitments from the clubs willing to do the hosting, the advertising in the AMA magazine, the special Jamboree design that will go on the hundreds of T-shirts that will be given away, the acquiring and approval of the funding, etc.
As far as I know, our 2006 Jamboree was the first one ever in any AMA District.
I can see how easily it can drag out. (Heck, there are times our simple club projects drag out into months of inaction...) :D
Our arrangements and planning usually include the Event Coordinator and the guys who do the buying of the groceries and condiments, the cooking, the collecting of the food money, the registration, the raffle, the PA system, the flier, and HobbyTown USA. All those things are normally taken care of by the same dozen or so people who have been doing it for the last several years. You'll find that around 80 or so club members always carefully shy away from these activities and only like to partake in the eating event... <_<
Just know that our club can do a fly-in on a couple of months' notice, usually in about three months, but it first MUST be approved by our club membership. It's the first step!

Welll, speaking of NOT being able to HELP, i'm already committed to helping out the XOXO FOUNDATION this weekend, (Kenny Stabler's golf, and fishing tournament, for Cystic Fibrosis) I'll possibly be able to show up late Sat. or maybe Sunday. Hate to miss the Warbird Fly In tho... sounds fantastic.

Tony stillman is the only one from the AMA that was putting on the jamboree,so he did not want to plan for one and than not get reelected. If someone else was elected they may not want to do a jamboree.
