Title: COVERING MY PLANE
Description: GREY DUCT TAPE

Cannonfodder - April 12, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone..I am about to cover my Tiger II and was wondering if anyone had ever tried duct tape? Propbuster told me it would be a good idea as long as I used a new roll. I'm a little suspicious because he was :hysterical: smiling when he said it. Duct tape is expensive and I really feel like he's jerking me around. Any help :bigplane:

I agree that duct tape is probably an excellent covering.
The color will blend in with the darkest of gray skies.
However, the additional weight will make crashes a bit harder than normal though.

And because of its toughness and strength, in a crash I doubt that any parts will fly away, keeping everything in a neat, easy to retrieve pile.

As I remember it, the duct tape covering idea was yours :yickes: ....but I personally think it'll work just fine. :roflmao:

Can't wait to see it! :sturthepot:

Hurry up and post a few pics for us!

I wonder how that clear plastic packaging tape would work?? The weight shouldn't be a problem. <_<

Hey, and If you didn't like the clear look, you could always put a little krylon on it!! :hysterical:

What do you think?? ;) :sturthepot:

most of my covered planes end up being covered in packaging tape after the damage so why not just start out with it...

Holy S H I T Alvin, thanks for putting that very disturbing image in my head...

And Packing tape is a wonderful tool to cover an airplane with!

I'm not sure but the pic of the young man sitting down :roflmao: I think thats plumbers tape :fullmoon: I also have a new thought on covering my Tiger. Its called Tillmans corner bumber tape. (actually a/c tape....the kind you peel off the backing) :newstuff: By the way Alvin....I like it..its its

Having covered a few planes over the past two decades I can see lots of problems trying to cover compound curves with little strips of tape af ANY kind...
Maybe better to paint it...

What's wrong with just plain MonoKote or Ultracote covering? Did I miss anything? :o

Here's proof that a little BS goes a L O N G way!

Where's Avistar when you need him???

:sturthepot:

I still like the packaging tape idea! :hysterical:

Cannonfodder - April 16, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
Well I really was thinking of two different colors and you make a good point, the shiny tape is kind of stiff so I was thinking of using electrical tape in the corners and compound curves. :sturthepot: Then I'll have black and silver. I think it will make a good choice. Does anyone know if they sell A/C duct tape for RC at the hobby shop?

4star40 - April 16, 2008 02:19 PM (GMT)
I am pretty sure the hobby shop won't have the A/C style duct tape. You will more than likely have to go to a hardware store such as Lowes, Ace, Home Depot.. etc.....

Well, one problem with that shiny metallic A/C tape is that it can cut you. :crying:
But, if your plane will be a combat plane... well, then...

To solve the problems with all the aforementioned methods, including my own, I would recommend using Saran wrap. It's flexible and shrinkable and you just merely wrap the whole plane in it. No need to cut out stuff...

For color, you could soak the plane in a solution of water and water-based paint or use color markers before wrapping and heat-shrinking. Permanent markers can be used AFTER shrinking too, of course... Good luck!

I have some of the AC ducting tape left over if you want to try it! :spin:
The packing tape is good if you don't use glow though. The oil makes it come off.
I bet the oil would make the duct tape messy if it starts to come off! ;)
I think I used it all at one time! :hysterical:

Cannonfodder - April 17, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
Saran wrap  Me thinks this may be the answer. BUT, that being said my fuselage is quite narrow. No one has ever explained to me how to cover the inside :( Is this going to be hard to do? So many problems.....so little time. :banghead:

BenHere - April 17, 2008 04:16 AM (GMT)
Thats easy... you can do it one of 2 ways...(you can do the inside FIRST)... or.. just grab it by the tail, jerk it inside out... and cover it thatta way......

Cannonfodder - April 18, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
Now there's a man who's Ben around :roflmao: Why didn't PropBuster think of that.
