Title: "Warbird & "Scale" Flyin
Justin P. - March 19, 2008 12:52 AM (GMT)
I was just wondering why are we calling it "Warbird" & "Scale" Flyin??
To my knowledge most of the warbirds are scale, so why not just call it just "Warbird" or just "Scale" Flyin?
To me if you call it warbird flyin then the civilian and experimental planes would be excluded, but if you just call it "Scale" Flyin; then that would include everything, right?
Just Wondering :penguin: :toiletpaper: :clown:
Avistar 2 - March 19, 2008 01:07 AM (GMT)
Scale would be the right answer.
Mike - March 19, 2008 01:25 AM (GMT)
Avistar is correct. I guess we just like to be repetitive and redundant in some ways. :D
TONY F - March 19, 2008 01:40 AM (GMT)
It was voted on at a CLUB meeting where were yall ???????????
Mike - March 19, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
Not at the meeting I guess. We just assumed that 20 or 30 grown men would know their terminology.

20 or 30 grown men that play with toys
Avistar 2 - March 19, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)
Those are not toys.
Those models are scaled downed replical if the real thing.
to call our Electric and Nitro models toy would be a insult to us.
Flying Dutchman - March 19, 2008 03:14 AM (GMT)
Okay, here's the true story. I was at that meeting too...
In spring of 2007 we had our "1st South Alabama Warbird Fly-in", remember? The name was chosen by the club's most knowledgeable warbird and scale members.
So when we talked about the 2008 edition, and I started work on the flier, the aforementioned experts of warbirds and scale decided to name it what it is named now: "Warbird & Scale".
But why, I hear you ask. Wouldn't that be repetitive, redundant and saying the same thing twice again, over and over?
Well, it ain't the same. Hear me out...
About that terminology...
It is true that most of our model military warbirds can be considered scale. (Mustang, Stearman, F-16).
It is also true that scale airplanes are not always warbirds. (Ultimate Bipe, Cessna 310, Piper Cub, Super Decathlon, and the oft-forgotten 3D aerobatic planes like Extra-300, Edge-540, YAK).
Because the 2007 Event Coordinator thought that we had a fairly poor turnout due to the "warbird" restriction, he and his expert buddies decided to add the "scale" category.
And because this particular Warbird & Scale Fly-in has no IMAA minimum size restriction, you can show up with your 40-size scale airplanes. They can be just about anything that looks 3D scale, civilian scale or warbird scale. Scale helicopters and jets are allowed too, as long as they fall in the categories I mentioned.
So give those who named it what it is a break. They did it to get more people to come.
There you have it! It's the most this old brain can remember...
No Mike, you cannot bring your Four-Star Foh...
And none of your Coroplast creations would qualify, Robert... :D

I never said it was the same, and I fully understand the terminology. All I was saying is that calling it a "Warbird & Scale" Fly-in is repetitive and could be fixed by just calling it a "Scale" Flyin, because "Scale" would refer to warbirds, civilian, aerobatic, and experimental aircraft.
Or, I can just shut up and just fly!!
Never mind.
Avistar 2 - March 19, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
SCALE MODEL AIRCRAFTS is what Justin is thinking about.
from old biplanes to warbirds and war fighter jets to right down to 747 stright to cessnas and pipers inculding sportplanes kitplanes etc etc aircraft .

I'm with ya', Justin!
I was just repeating what I heard at that meeting... I just do what I'm told...
After all, what do I know about scale or warbirds?
Flying Dutchman - March 19, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
We've got that scale thingy understood, Avistar2.
We're way ahead of you... You just try to keep up with us. <_<
You are beginning to push me over the edge again... Fair warning!...
Avistar 2 - March 19, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
What ? I just wanted you to know that I'm not stupid , I just want you understand what I'm talking about,
always misjuding me.
Flying Dutchman - March 19, 2008 10:16 PM (GMT)
Of the 20 or so people who always or sometimes post on this Forum, your posts are the only ones I'm having trouble with...
It must be me...
Avistar 2 - March 19, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)

Don't forget the scale event is this Saturday April 26. I talked to some guys today that are coming from out of town. Please if you have time to come and help please do so. I have talked to Rob and he is going to talk to Bill and see if he will do a fly over.
Osirus711 - April 21, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
Now that would be cool..
Flying Dutchman - April 21, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
Some of you who fly during the week may run across some strangers around Wednesday or Thursday.
These are guys from Louisiana who travel around in motor homes and visit AMA fields to fly their stuff. They are in Tuscaloosa right now. They will be here for our Warbird & Scale Fly-in this weekend.
I have talked to Andy and they have our permission to come as early as Wednesday. I will arrange to get them a key to the gate.
Some of these guys have been here before. They are with the American Eagles club in New Orleans. Bill Krummel is one of them. After Ivan and Katrina messed them up badly, we sort of lost track of them.
These guys fly some cool warbirds, and they don't mind flying ALL DAY LONG!
Make them feel welcome!

:D Our rain should pass fast and not linger.
lrogers - April 23, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
Rain or shine, I'll be there with the H500d, Airwolf (whether it's finished or not) and the Sea King. I'll tape the big pieces together and layout are the bits and pieces for inspection.
I talked to Emile Sheriff aka Copter Doctor and is going to try and get down. I requested he bring his Sea King so I could get some more pictures.

Tony, any word yet on if Bill is going to come by in his L-29 or any other full scale planes? I'm trying to convince a couple of friends to come hang out, grab a burger, and check things out, but that's all they seem to care about seeing.

4star40 - April 24, 2008 02:16 AM (GMT)
I would make it but have a Jazz Jamboree to play in all day, we are hoping it will rain up here since it is an outdoor event, but hope everyone down there gets good weather for the fly-in...
lahughes3 - April 24, 2008 11:11 AM (GMT)
Too bad LT, but don't worry, I will be there with the P51.
4star40 - April 24, 2008 01:27 PM (GMT)
