Title: Which New Radio to Purchase?
Description: Input wanted

I'm considering purchaseing a new radio to supplement what I already have. I currently use a Futaba 6EXA with 3 model memory. The 2.4G Spread Spectrum stuff sounds neat, but maybe it's still too new. I want a minimum of 6 channels, but I like the bells, whistles, and expandability that the 9-12 channels offer. ;)
If it were you, what would be your choice and why? :twocents:

If you've got Futaba then I would go with the 2.4
If you'll look it up I think you'll find that it's actually not new technology.
It's the same technology used in networking for years which is what makes it so
uninterfearable (however you spell it).
I did my research first then bought a Spectrum after a design of my own went in due to interferance in the first few flights.
I have to say I am very pleased with my DX7 and from what I've heard of the Futaba, they are very comparable but you already have the servos to match.
If I were you I would go with the Futaba. If they don't have the channels you need wait a few months and they will, I'm sure. It's worth the wait.

Dx7 or JR 9303 are my two favorites.

I like the Futaba 2.4
(Reason) I just like Futaba  But any of the 2.4 radios would be a good choice :)

I was in HobbyTown earlier today and Jake suggested the DX7 (I think he said that's a JR radio). I'm very tempted. I was also peering through MAN and saw several ads for the JR Spektrum radio. ;) What about the receiver though? Is that one of those with two little receivers that have to be mounted 90 degrees to each other?

To best of my knowledge.
The Spektrum and JR 2.4 gig radios have a more limited range park flyer reciever that is one unit with two short antennas.
Their full range reciever has an attached satelite reciever with two more short antennas.
The Futaba 2.4 stuff all just has a single reciever with two short antennas.

I guess today will require another trip to the hobby shop to have a closer look. Thanks Alvin. ;)

The 2 recievers are just for added security. The dual reciever is around $70 and the 6100(mini reciever) is about $60. I flew the 6100 in my small plane but just as far away as my dual reciever and it hasn't had any problems with recieving yet.
I've talked to a few people who put them in 40 size planes with no problems yet too. :D
Don't forget if you get the spectrum to get some leads for converting your Futaba servos!

I went to the shop and looked. I'm just not ready for the 2.4 yet. <_< I'm gonna get the 9C from Futaba instead. ;) The profile plane I'm working on right now just makes the dual receiver thing too hard, and it's too big to risk on the park flyer receiver.
