Title: Almost Ready to Cover
Description: Are any still being made?
TJR - January 6, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
I've got a few build projects started and waiting to start, but I want something to fly sooner. I like Great Planes ARF's (good quality) but I'm tired of the same old cookie cutter looks. The U-Can-Do 60 catches my eye, but again, I've seen a few at the field and you can't tell one from another. A decent 60 size sport model, pre-built that I can cover is what I'd like to find. Anybody have any input?

Well, after some searching and looking around the net, I found something that I liked. ;) I found a lare size profile ARF from Ohio Model Products that I was able to get in basic white film covering  so I can add my own graphics easily. Now I just need a good .60 - .90 two stroke or .90 - 1.20 four stroke :D .

Care to tell us what it's called? <_<

Yeah, the ARC options are very limited. I actually don't know of anything on the market these days other than the giant scale Top Flite P-51 ARC. Though with the price (and time) comparison of building a kit to buying an ARF these days, you might just consider stripping the covering off of an ARF and re-covering yourself if you want a tried and true flier in a color scheme all your own.
Sounds like you found a good platform though, good luck with it.

:D I have a Starhawk ARC . It has a 47 inch wing span Rec. eng. .40 . I could bring it to the meeting if anyone cares to see it.

Is it plastic? :o

It's called the Fusion. It has a 67" wingspan, and the fuselage is basically a profile fuse. It's mainly designed for Pattern, but can do 3D also. It should be fun!

:o No Balsa wood. I keep in a brown box, ( maybe that helps Dutchman)

There was an imposing knock at the door about 20 minutes ago. I cautiously answered it and found the UPS man standing there with a large, long, cardboard box. It's here! Tomorrow I'll start laying out my covering scheme (I bought covering today at HT). I'm going to borrow the paint scheme on our Heli's at work with some minor differences.
I'll try to get pictures posted tomorrow.
Where's a good place to buy a sheet of glass for cutting covering film on?
TJR - January 10, 2008 03:33 PM (GMT)
Okay, here's what it looks like out of the box. Pre-covered in White Ultracoat (possibly "China"kote - they were supposed to switch to Ultracoat - I can't tell  ). I'll go over all the edges with an iron before I start with my graphics. I set a yard stick in the photo for a size comparison :yickes: . I started to cut templates out of posterboard this morning for my trim scheme. I need to find a sheet of glass today to start cutting film.

Looks cool TJ. Should come out loooking really good in that color scheme found on the helo above. Even if it is Georgia colors. :D
TJR - January 11, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
Who's Georgia?
Actually I'm a Notre Dame fan. :embarrassed:
I've got the fuse done, and it looks pretty good. I'm going to start the wings shortly. I hope to have it finished today then I'll post pics.

All done except for the engine and radio :D . They're both on order which is OK 'cause I go back to work tomorrow and won't be back until next Wednesday.
I don't know why, but the thumbnail picture is wrong. If you click to enlarge it you'll see the topside of the airplane.

Very nice, TJ!
By the way, I always knew you were a bit different (...in a special sort of way...)
I never noticed it before, but these pictures prove it.
There's a light that appears to be emanating from your body... :o
Spooky... :yickes:

Actually, it's similar to the Aurora Borealis. It's caused by the gases emanating from my aura reacting with the tungsten lighting.
Or was it the beer?
