I'm just curious why that trainer didn't work? What was wrong with it?
The SIG Kadet is a fine trainer. Just remember when buying used RC stuff, especially electronic items like batteries, receiver, and transmitter can become problems if they had some sort of difficulty to start with.
On that Kadet... Does it come with batteries, receiver, servos and transmitter?
If so the price sounds okay, especially if the field box includes a 12V power panel, a glow starter with AC adapter, engine starter motor with 12V battery, and assorted tools.
If not, you may be better off buying a brandnew trainer COMBO for around $280 at HobbyTown USA, which includes a plane, all electronics, and the engine, all pre-installed. Takes one to four hours to assemble. Just add fuel! The Avistar trainer is great and I highly recommend it. The NexSTAR trainer is more expensive, but comes with a larger engine.
But NO field box and associated equipment are included with combos. HobbyTown offers a field box plus all the neccesary gadgets and tools for a couple of hundred dollars more, I think.
Over the years I have observed that starting this RC hobby on the cheap usually does not work in the long run. Last year three people did that, came around for a month or two, and we haven't seen them since.
Even with electric planes you have to be able to deal with electric motors and speed controllers that can burn up, and crashes that can wipe out your plane, engine parts, servos and receiver. And crash you will! Guaranteed!
Not trying to discourage you, paladine28! It's just that when you said "in case I don't like the hobby" indicates that you're not quite sure.
Just be careful buying used RC stuff unless you know where it came from. I would like for you to start off right so you'll stick with it. But if you don't, someone else will buy your RC stuff!
:D

Have you actually gone to the field and flown? You might try this before spending any money. There are usally plenty of guys out there to let you try under buddy box and see. Not as easy as it looks

Paladine, I have an Avistar that Fritz described in above message. Would be more than glad to let you fly it, t (with assistance of an instructor)... It's only been flown once so far, so i'm probably the wrong guy to ask for a recommendation, but, seeems GREAT to me. I'll be at field Sunday afternoon unless something comes up. Plenty of guys are usually there to offer advice, and its a good way to learn. They're all a good bunch of guys.

I have a Kadet Senior RTF For Sale. You could be flying this weekend. Includes a 4 channel Futaba radio, Webra .50. Never Crashed or even landed hard. I will let it go for the low special price of $200. I learned to fly on it and just don't need it anymore.
