Title: A123 cells, building and charging

I just finished building another a123 1100 mah receiver pack. I really like these cells!!! There are several advantages and no dis-advantages that I can see!

They put out 6.1 volts so you get max power without having to use a regulator

They fast charge! You can charge them at over 4 amps (like all the other batteries, you need a charger made for the a123's or get an 'dapter' http://www.slkelectronics.com/lipodapter/index.htm )

Will last over 2,000 cycles

You can't kill them like lipos and li ions. They can be totally discharged and brought back.

Weigh about the same as a 4.8 pack but a little smaller

Get them at Wally world for $18

Have an extremely high discharge rate but will barely get warm. They don't have a 'bottleneck' effect like all of the other batteries..

Here are links to a thread where I build a receiver pack and charge it..

Here's a webpage with the info also.

Sounds great Jon!
Where can you find them in Wal Mart, I'm assuming the r/c stuff!

They are the vpx packs in the tools section. For the new black and decker drills etc.

That means you could also adapt the B&D charger to charge them too?

You probably could

Wouldn't it be easier to use that Black & Decker drill to turn the prop on your electric plane?
That way you don't have to cut those battery packs, rebuild them, etc...
Cool!

(... Sorry ...)

Sounds like a good idea to me!!! I'll let you run out there in front of the plane running the drill ;)
