Title: Coroplast plane questions

You guys with these Kenny-built coroplast planes, where are you putting the battery and how are you securing it to make sure it doesn't slide out the back?

Also, where and how did you mount the switch?

Mike, I put my battery in front of the servos & behind the fuel tank and the switch is in the side of the fuselage under the wing.that way the tank & servos help hold the battery & receiver

Ditto for me....just wrapped it in foam and jammed it right behind the fuel tank...... ;)

Are y'all balanced on the spar? It seems to get it to balance there I'd have to put the battery at the very back of the fuse, basically right in front of the gaping open end of the fuse tube. I don't want it to fall out. :D

I'll have to see if I have anything precise enough to cut a mounting hole for the switch in the side of the fuse. I was thinking some of y'all had just zip tied or glued the switch to the outside instead of cutting a small hole to mount it.

Hey Mr. Mike,
Can you do it this way.
Locate all stuff in fusalage where you want it.
Then mount wing in position to have CG be on wing spar.
With the flat bottom wing and flat top fusalage, wing can mount where needed to make CG location work out.

Like in your case, looks to be nose heavy with battery mounted in standard place, move wing mounting position to the front some.

And you could use a switch mount that requires just a round hole in fusalage.
Or if you must mount switch direct to fusalage side, drill holes for mounting screws and where the switch toggle come through and square up the hole to fit switch with an exacto knife. That downspout plastic ought to cut or file.

Yeah, this is what I was planning on doing. Didn't think about the single hole type, I'll have to see if I have one of those switch mounts.

As far as moving the wing, the hold-down dowels are already in place so there's little wiggle room on sliding the wing forward and back without relocating those. I think I can get by with epoxying or screwing into a piece of spruce across the back of the fuse. I'll still pack the battery in with plenty of foam, but if it for some reason comes loose that'll hopefully keep it from sliding out the back.

Can't you close off the back?

Well, now, that's a novel idea, Don!

That'd be kind of like doing this, right? ;)

Thats what I diid with my first gutter plane...battery was in same position you are talking about....never had a problem until I slammed into david's twist....then it really didnt matter anyway!! :roflmao:

I did mine like this.
I cut a slot in the fuse to hold a coffee stirrer tightly. Pushed the stirrer down behind the wing dowel and sawed the excess off flush.
I also brought the charging cable to the back, so I didn't have to install a charging jack or pinch the cable under the wing.
