Title: Sunday -Day at the field
Description: Had fun
Russell flying Tigers - November 20, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
This last Sunday I was asked to be a spotter for combat. That was the very first time I was really envolved in the combat event. It was fun. I learned a lot about the combat event. Also later on that day I did some more heli training. Did ok. Monday I was the only one at the field and flew my ugly stick 2 times. I practiced making passes over the runway in a teardrop pattern. Also did some touch and goes and rolls and loops and the immelmann turn. Also practised low passes flying to the north end of the field and finally the engine quit while I was flying. So I dead sticked for a landing from the south end landing towards the north. My timer did not time???????? If I keep dead sticking for landings I might consider changing my name. I think we all know who dead sticks landings so just call me junior.

Not familiar with that term, Russell.
Is that the shape of the pattern, or did you do the pattern while your eyes were welling up with tears because you were terror-stricken? :o

Russell was an excellent combat spotter, even if he did only count 2 cuts for me. Next time I'll bribe him a little better to bring that number up. :D

Come on Russell, let's here more about the Heli training? How does that work, is there an instructor at the field who is skilled and talented enough to train wan-a-b-heli pilots with a buddy box? What a tremendous value that would add to our club if there was such an instructor! :redheli:

The heli training is Steve Drakes idea and he is using a blade cp pro and the transmiter that came with it. Also a second transmiter for the buddy box. This is a experment to see if it can be done. Like all new things tried there is little things that need to be work out. I believe it is workable and in time it can be perfected. There is a way to train and a certain way to go about it. I would set it up like I used to do at work as project manager. The tear drop pattern or if like a double dog bone style pattern. Using the ranway as the straight piece of the leg and at both ends of the ranway you double back. This keeps me in pratice for landing in any direction north or south depending on the wind direction. Alvin, you missed your true calling. You should have been a graphic artist in designing web sights.
