Gosh, David, I don't even know what you're asking, and from the responses to your question, neither does anyone else... :D

That Vista thingy is supposed to do EEEVERYTHING, right?...

Mike - October 29, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
For what you pay I'd hope it's the MAC that does everything, including cleaning up the mess and driving itself home afterwards. B)

David - October 29, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
sorry i guess what i want to say is ,,,, how to you make reflex install and work in windows vista..

Flying Dutchman - October 29, 2007 10:36 PM (GMT)
Well, no, it was never claimed that a Mac would "clean up and drive itself home afterward"... :huh

And I know it won't "tun right in vista ultimate", whatever that is... but I'll ask it!

David - October 29, 2007 10:37 PM (GMT)
heck i just seen that was spelled wrong..lol

Johnny_J - October 30, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)

Very soon I will be upgrading the operating system on my iMac to the new OS X Leopard, and guess what? It will then be Windows Vista capable too...
All I will have to do is install it... But... why would I want to?

BTW, In case you don't know - All new Macs are available with Windows XP AND Windows Vista pre-installed... :pumpkin:

Max Power - October 30, 2007 08:53 PM (GMT)
Alvin, I have windows 3.1 if you need it sometime. Did you upgrade to the new 5 1/4 floppy disks yet or are you still using tapes and punch cards?

Frits, you should install Vista or XP so you can play games. Battlefield 2142 is fun. Do Macs run Vista within their operating system?

The answer is no. Not "within". But you can boot under any one of thee operating systems — Mac OS X, OR Windows XP, OR Windows Vista. You make that choice at start-up. You cannot hot-key from one OS to the other.

While in the new OS X, the older OS 9.x operating system, called Classic, can be run at the same time. It's for those programs that Apple decided would not be upgraded to run in the new UNIX-based OS X Leopard. I do that all the time now.

The new Leopard OS supports the most popular 32-bit releases of Windows XP and Windows Vista. When you use either operating system on the Mac, Windows applications run at native speed. Windows applications have full access to multiple processors and multiple cores, accelerated 3D graphics, and high-speed connections like USB, FireWire, Wi-Fi, and Gigabit Ethernet.

When you use a Windows application, you have full access to unique Mac features (the built-in iSigh camera, Apple Remote, trackpad, specific keyboard keys, keyboard backlighting) and connectivity (wired and wireless).

Even though I don't play the games you play, I would love to see them run on a Mac!

:roflmao:

Alvin, I still have my first DOS-based IBM Personal Computer, an antique. (Before that I had a Texas Instruments 99/4A.)

If I recall, the IBM came with 512 Kbytes of RAM, two 5-1/4 floppy drives and NO hard disk.
I upgraded it to a whole 1 Mbyte of RAM and replaced the B: drive with a 10 (yes, TEN!) Mbyte hard disk drive. It still worked the last time I fired it up!

What am I bid?

David - October 31, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
i know you just hate having that old thing sitting around, ill just give you 10 for your gas money and take it off your hands

But, David, it's a sho'nuf antique!

It has a 13 in. Taxan color monitor... Very sharp!

Seemed I paid more than $1,500 for it back then... WAAAY back then... :D

The current Reflex installer is causing the problem as the 3rd party installer won't run on 64bit system and all os recognitions later than XP.

The new installer on the next CD batch will work fine in these environments. A reasonable workaround for the time being is rather boring: just install Reflex on a 32 bit XP operating system and copy c:\program files\reflex to your 64bit or Vista manually. Just need a few links to the desktop or task bar, that's it. As Reflex doesn't need any registry keys, a manual copy/paste works fine.

The vista permissions are pretty simple but they don't work automatically if you do the copy/paste stuff manually. The permissions are set automatically by an installer - with you can't with the current version. It should work if you use another directory than "program files" as you did by choosing c:\.

Alvin MUST be a member of the

"Geek Squad"

Flying Dutchman - December 30, 2007 02:20 PM (GMT)
Right on, lahughes3!

Good God, Alvin! You must do ALL THAT just to install a program on a Windows PC?
Things have not gotten better since Windows 95, have they?

We are used to inserting a disc (or two), click the "Install" button, and wait for that message that ALWAYS says: "Successfully installed."

We then go ahead and USE our — always IMPROVED — computer, not curse it... :D

Well, they DO! ALL new operating systems have bugs.
It's just that you Windows guys don't read about them because you probably don't keep up with Apple stuff much.

But really you should!
Your next operating system will have a lot of what we are using NOW... :D

I try to keep up with both operating platforms, so you guys won't get the best of me.
I have read about Vista and got a report from one of the PC gurus (a real one) who used to work for me (he was NOT a Mac lover!) He said that most people should wait until Vista's bugs got worked out, among other things...

In my computer experience, 4star40, I found that people who "LOVE" a new operating system, warts and all, are usually kind of geeky and know how to work around things, and deal with the problems, because well... that's what they think a computer is all about...

It doesn't have to be that way. Most people don't like the geeky stuff at all.
They want a computer that works for them, not one they have to work... :)

What else do you guys want to talk about?
It's raining like crap here at the house. I can sit here and type, and type, and type all day...
You know I don't mind typing words...
Gosh, no Pits Report this weekend! :( :yickes:

Avistar 2 - December 30, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
Macs are for rich people of the upper class
I have vista home preminium what with ultmate?

I'm not rich, by any means, Avistar2. If I were, I'd have the latest model iMac computer and its latest operating system, Leopard. (Your Windows Vista OS is much like Leopard, except I haven't read any bad reports about it...)

I'll find out next week, because I'm ordering MaC OS X Leopard this afternoon to upgrade my going-on-four-year old iMac. It's my Christmas gift to myself... :)

Avistar 2 - December 30, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
Buy allien it cost more than MACs

¡No comprénde, señor!

You DO live in Arizona, right? <_<

We need to stop talking about MACs... It makes Alvin hungry! He loves them BIG!

Avistar 2 - December 30, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
Well MACs just have thier O.Ss no one did not tell me that Alvin loves apples
Why do call Apples O.S Mac?
they need to change it to Core.
get it Apple.>
Core. :roflmao: :hysterical: :D

The Apple PCs O.S s should be Core
Wait is the an apple called Mac ?

Anyway what does vista ultmate have?

I guess you mean "Why does Apple call their computer Mac?"

Well, Mac is short for Macintosh. The apple by that name, look it up... Get it? Apple? Macintosh apple? ... Good thing they didn't call it Granny...

The i in iMac came about when every Mac became Internet-capable out of the box many years ago.

Vista Ultimate must be the absolute ULTIMATE in operating systems, I guess... :(

Avistar 2 - December 31, 2007 12:00 AM (GMT)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahyahahahahahahah... (Sorry, I got carried away...)

That's where you are very wrong! RIGHT NOW, Avistar2, I can run Windows XP and (...AND!...) Windows Vista on my current computer, and it's not even the latest model...

Don't talk about stuff you don't know about... <_<
I have been fooling with computers for about 20 years (I still have the DOS-based IBM PC antique that I started with). Running a computer help desk (1,200 desktop computers including PCs and Macs) was my job for several years...

My current old iMac will run Mac OS X Leopard (the latest Mac OS), PLUS Windows XP, AND Windows Vista too...

One day in the future perhaps, Windows will be able to run Mac stuff, but that will be after Apple and Microsoft merge...!

 :hyper:

Avistar 2 - December 31, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
Well some one told me that macs only use thier own O.S not windows
must be the old ones

I remenber when PCs have a ugly beige color and have large floopy drives and a small floppy drive.
the apple PCs were all white.
now they have a dvd and cd burner and player
and have daul processors faster down loads etc

Correct. The Mac is all grown up now... :D

Flying Dutchman - December 31, 2007 02:09 AM (GMT)
When you have some time to waste, you really should visit the Apple website and see what a Mac and Leopard are all about. (And you'll learn why iTunes, iPods and iPhones are so popular...) There are several demos.

Not to try to convert you or anything, just so you'll know what I'm talking about...

Go ahead, you may be surprised! I dare you! :D

Nice try! And I like the name.

But they would NEVER come with Vista as their main operating system, whether it's Supreme or Ultimate!
We'll stick with cuddly names like Tiger (the older OS), Panther (that's what I'm running now), Leopard (the current OS, which I just ordered yesterday) or maybe Cheetah (I made that up, but since it's the fastest mammal in the world, I expect it could be next...)

iMacs already come with HD-capable LCD screens (24 in. minimum, standard).
They already come with dual Intel processors.
They can already run Windows XP and Windows Vista. Some models come with them pre-installed.
I'm sure they'll soon come with TByte (that's Terra Byte, avistar2) hard disk drives.
And they already come with "everything you need" — at least everything most of us need — except problems...
$5,500? Nah, they start at around $1,100.

:D

Avistar 2 - December 31, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
just goes to show how stuck up apple macs are
they just have to have thier own operating systems
they hate mirosoft and dislike windows O.S
what ever you do ,don't get apple mac office

Don't talk about stuff you don't know anything about, Avistar2. And you sound pretty ignorant right now... Not even sure what you are saying...

Microsoft and Apple are not enemies. I have been using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) on my older Macs since 2003. Files are easily transferred between the two platforms.

Perhaps you didn't understand my English (I'm an ex-foreigner, after all...) :P

Avistar 2 - December 31, 2007 05:01 PM (GMT)
I like window vista home edition
has a lot more than than office edition
and yes I don't know about office mac and anything about PC office software
I'm not a office desk jocky
