Title: TopFlight monocoat
Description: Arf repair-Temperature settings

I recently bought a used plane I need to peel back some of the Topflight monocoating. What temperature setting should I use to restick it back onto the plane? Also there may be some spots where I need to glue it on for it to stay. Should I use superclue or another type of adhesive?

put it at about 325 degrees and slap some ca on there. Actually, I normally don't
try to iron back on covering, because usually the glue from the covering sticks to
the wood it is applied to. I usually get some new covering and patch it or use some
ca to stick it back down. After you pull it back it probably is not going to stick very
well anymore just by trying to heat back up.

Just my :twocents:

If the product is real TopFlite MonoKote, start with about 275 degrees F and adjust temp up till the film adhesive gets tacky. If film melts, you went too hot and turn down the heat.
See link below.
MonoKote Tips Page - Click Here

Other types/brands of iron on covering may require different temps for best results. Start with low temp and keep turning up the heat till the adhesive on film will activate and get tacky.

If for some reason the film adhesive will no longer activate properly and not stick good enough, I would use some medium CA applied between film and where you want it attached and hold film in place with some non stick plastic under finger to keep from getting glued to any CA that will creep from the edge of film.
Good plastic to use is the peel off backing from MonoKote or even something like Saran Wrap.

Also, there is a MonoKote/TopFlite brand liquid product (Trim Solvent) available to activate the film adhesive without any heat needed.

Hey russell, put alot of glue on it,wipe it down with gasoline and sniff, make sure its wet,
take it out side and hold along match to it.It will stick very quick. It may shrink some.
