Title: Knife edge with an Ultrastick???

Slappy - July 14, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
I got ballsy enough to try my new Ultrastick out flyin knife edge, but it just wants to roll out... is this a setup thing or a tendency of the airframe design? I know I can give it aileron to stop it from doing that but Im not that good yet

Jake

Slappy,
On pattern type planes the the unwanted roll and/or pitch could be adjusted out by adjusting amount of dihedral, aliron droop, size/shape of rudder, subfin, change CG.
You had to have pattern planes to react to rudder in knifedge with just pure yaw and no other interactions.

With the Stick, you probably stuck with having to learn to fly the plane thru the knifedge by holding whatever other inputs necessary.

Like on my Sonic, it pitches down pretty bad in knifedge and I have to hold some up elevator.
You will get used to it and make the knifedge look good I am sure.

On most radios you can 'mix' out the coupling also... Use a little rudder to aileron and rudder to elevator..

B) Slappy that airplane we never do a good knifedge without a lot of help. :crying: Buy you a groovy or a venus. I am thinking about selling mine if you see any one looking. P.S I did not have any problems with my wings.

It all comes down to PRACTICE, PRACTICE and more PRACTICE...

With practice you can make a 2X12 knife-edge...

I don't think you can keep a 2x12 in the air for 6 minutes. B)

I don't know which Ugly Stik you have, I had the Great Planes ARF (.40). The dihedral in the wing will cause the most problems for knife edge. You'll be fighting the natural tendency to right itself.

how much trow do u have on your rudder.Aerobaic flyers always max trow rudder only :)
