Title: Epoxy coatings
Description: How too?

It has been suggested that I coat my inside of my airplanes with a mixture of epoxy and isopropyl alcohol. How much alcohol do you use to make the wash? Using 1 ounce of epoxy to what part alcohol? :o  :banghead:

Hey Russel, just add alittle alcohol at a time untill it gets easy to work with...

And you don't need to do the whole inside, just areas that will/might get exposed to fuel or engine exhaust.
Like in the engine compartment and fuel tank area in case the tank ever springs a leak. Also maybe just inside the fusalage area where the wing attaches in case any engine exhaust finds it's way in there.
Remember that epoxy is fairly heavy and will add weight to airplane.
I would go with the 90% alcohol instead of the 70% so that there will be less water in the mix and will work better I think.

Thankyou Slappy and Alvone, the info was greatly useful. Where do you get 90% alcohol in Mobile area?

You use 90% (normal alcohol) with 10% epoxy glue. Denatured alcohol works best ,but rubbing alcohol will do.

In the drug section of places like Wally World and discount drug stores, I have seen the 90% along with the 70%.
I would try a half and half mix of alcohol and epoxy.
Me myself, I just smear some CA glue around in the areas for additional fuelproofing.

I personally don't fool with those high-percentage alcohols y'all use.
Over the years I found that the low alcohol content of an imported beer is just fine (I now use Windmill from Winn-Dixie)...
But I DID find that the quality of my work is inversely proportional to the amount of alcohol that I use...
:roflmao:

I have considered everyone's comment and I appreciate each persons input but I "m inclined to agree with Fritz. I do not have any Windmill on hand but certainly I probably owe Fritz a few,(so he can keep his wits about him when I fly). :banghead: :o

Hey Russell,
Don't forget us spectators, we need something to settle out nerves while watching your "Windmill" takeoffs and landings. :P
Hang tight Russell, you will get there, confidence is high. ARG!! :pirate:
