Title: Batterys
Description: Check Them

Don Koval - April 27, 2007 03:14 AM (GMT)
Check your batterys befor each flight  This is what I tell all the new flyers that I talk to. If you don't have a testor, see me, I will let you use mine

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL GUESS WHAT I DID :o Or Did Not Do :(

Friday night I put the Cessna on charge, it had a good 15 hr charge,(or so I thought) So saturday I didn't check it befor my first flight  I mean, it charged up all night, RIGHT ;) Do you rember that "Death spiral" I did saturday.

When we got out to the crash site, all servoes seamed to be working. So, as I don't fly all that great I thought, I lost it. When we got back to the pit, I checked the battery, 4.8v Hmmmmm this seames a bit low, rember that 15 hr charge.

When I got home I put the wing on and tried the cnotrols, when I took hold of the elevator you could hold it back with ease, it would not hardly move, the same with the ailerons. Now back to the battery, it had 4.8v all right, but it should have been up to 5,2v al least after that all night charge. I but it on my cycler and checked it out, after a discharge and recharge it would not get above 4.8v. But the realy bad part is, it is a 600 mAh battery, and it would only come up to 83 mAh. :yickes: The minimum for safe use is 420 mAh.

AND" you know what  I had just bought 5 new batteryes. There thay set, on my work bench :banghead:

So as the old saying goes. Do as I say, not, Do as I do.................

Yeah Don,I am guilty of that also.I have a meter on the side of my plane with the
lights.I really need to check my batteries more often.I hope you can get the plane
back together.(Hey maybe that Irvington triangle sucked the juice out of you battery).
Talk at ya later kenny2

alvinonline - April 27, 2007 03:49 AM (GMT)
That is good news in a way, Don.

You have found a very high probability for cause of crash.

Now you know that you are not loosing it (we never had any doubts) and can better trust the rest of that flight pac reciever and servos.

What batt checker do you use and how much load is on pac while checking voltage?

Don Koval - April 27, 2007 08:21 AM (GMT)
I have the, Accu-Cycle Pro Series, Charger-Analyzer-Conditioner.

My Voltmeter is a Hanger 9 Digital. It puts a 240ma load on a 4.8v pack.

Hey Don I forgot to mention,I just got in a (Alright Alvin keep your mind out of the gutter here)Lil Trickler.I hope it will help out on my batteries for my transmitter and
planes.-I know alvin is gonna still do something with this.you can charge up to 3
chargers on it.I bekieve it was only 35.00.glad to see you got it figured out.kenny2

It happens to all of us Don!!! I believe that battery and switch failures are the #1 cause of wrecks (but it's so easy to say interference ;) ) That's why all of my larger planes run 2 batteries and 2 switches :D

Osirus711 - April 27, 2007 02:23 PM (GMT)
Yeah I thinks thats happened to all of us.....Killed my Spectrum and my first Twist.

Don Koval - April 27, 2007 06:16 PM (GMT)
I bought those new batteries because the ones in my planes are over 3 years old.
The one that went bad is almost 4 years old. So I was thinking, I better change them befor I get bit.

I think I better get some new transmitters batteries also. ;)

Didn't you kill that Twist three times?

:hysterical:

Johnny_J - April 28, 2007 02:59 AM (GMT)
You probably already know this but for those who don't.
If you charge your NiCad or NiMh batteries too long they will go bad very quickly due to the excessive overcharge and heat. :fuming:
FYI!
Hope this helps anyone in the future.

I was think of ordering 2 Volt Checks for my to Gas planes
