Title: Great Planes Ultimate .40
Mike - March 26, 2007 03:53 AM (GMT)
Ultimate has been sold. Thanks, Todd! Not much to say here. Built from a kit, flies great, never crashed or even dinged short of a wingtip scrape. Thought I had it sold a while back but that didn't go through (surprise, surprise). Airframe only, $100 firm.

Great looking plane! How advanced does someone have to be to fly this plane? Would this be a good 3rd plane for someone? How do bi-planes fly compared to single low wing planes? I'm thinking of buying it and putting it on a shelf until I get a lot more experience!

As a 3rd plane I think it would be a piece of cake. I would say it would even make a suitable second plane, but it's been a long time since I transitioned from a trainer and I forget just how much of a change it was going from my Eagle 2 to my Tiger 2. In my opinion the most significant thing you'll notice is that the extra wing is going to add a good bit of drag, which requires you to keep some power on when you come in to land and it won't glide as well as a single wing plane (well, depending on the single wing plane) if you lose power. Although, I have had a few deadstick landings with this one and never seemed to have any problems getting back to the runway.

I want the plane . Are you going to the field this weekend? I'm going to try to make it there both days. I will make sure to have $100. I can appreciate the effort and money that went into building this plane. It's better than buying an ARF because all of the hinges and linkages are installed. What engine did you have run in it? Do you want to sell it as well?
My name it Todd Zimbelman and I usually set up my Kadet Trainer in the South Pits.

Todd, I know you by your plane, but I don't think we've met. I should definitely be at the field Sunday, and possibly Saturday as well. If you want to PM me your number, I'll give you a call before I head out to make sure you're gonna be there. Or if you live anywhere in West Mobile, you could pick it up. Your call.
I had a Webra .50 in it, which has since found its way into another plane. Any .45 or larger 2 stroke should provide plenty of power to pull it around, and with the .50 it had almost unlimited vertical.

Hey, Kadet Kid,
How's that finger? Has it stopped throbbing yet?
Great photo of it in the Pits Report!
Let me know when that thing gets healed up good enough to control that stick, and we'll test that bipe out.
Mike would never let me fly it...

Flying Dutchman, My finger feels a lot better, once the swelling went down. I have been practicing flying on the simulator with my thumb and middle finger.
This makes my 4th plane now, and Iv'e only been flying for 6 weeks, I think that

Sounds good Todd, I'll give you a call this weekend when I know when I'm coming out. I'll probably be working Saturday, but if I get started early enough in the morning I'd still like to go to the field. If not then, I'll definitely be there Sunday.
You know, unless the Auburn cheerleaders come pick me up for a surprise late birthday celebration.
KADET KID - March 30, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
Mike, If you get kidnapped by the AU cheerleaders, and can't make it, I will understand :D
Flying Dutchman, you can fly my ultra-bipe 40 !
