Alvin's Mini ACMA Field Report.Sunday, March 25, 2007, Yep, another fine day like yesterday and lots of folks came out to fly, eat, and observe. Tony did the honors on the grill again with hot dogs, sausages, and hamburgers. Also two big boxs of Churchs Chicken supplied by Robert Sanderson.
So much flying that I will just have to hit the highlights. Instructor Steve Drake broke his record of never crashing a students plane today by making a dead stick landing right between two big pipes sticking out of ground that were plainly marked, but to his surprise there was a third pipe not so visible right between the other two pipes.
Tony Farmer had a mental lapse when he took his T-34 Mentor up for another flight without fueling it up. Tony was just in air long enough to be making a low high speed pass when he said that the engine went "wooomp" and then deadly silent. He got the gear down and set the plane down way out in field with no damage, but he was scared on the ride out in Justin's truck to recover what he figured would be a busted Mentor.
Alvin, Justin, Mike, David, Tony, and maybe others, I forget, did some plane to plane combat, racing, and touch & go competition all together and at one time. Some close calls and heart pounding moments, but everything ended up intact.
Plenty more action and a great day of model aviation adventure with another demonstration of night flying by David Lanzo and his illuminated Tiger Moth.
Roger Hagler had out his Hangar 9 scale bipe with the Snoopy pilot.

Jon Koppish was flying a big Super Lazy Ace bipe.

David got some French Cooking over charcoal lessons from our resident cook Tony "Bootie" Farmer.

New pilot Jade Taylor made the trip down from Chatom with his fleet.

Frank Madison observes Ground Instructor Inspector Don Koval as he goes over and prepares a new guys scale Cessna airplane. It was later sucessfully test flown by Senior Flight Instructor Frits Jetten.

Justin Peacock is back into RC big time with his new Funtana plane, but enjoys flying, the best I think, an old beater plane composed of parts from several different airplanes.

David Lanzo enjoyed flying his Pizazz today, one of his very few remaing airplanes, He also flew his Hawk chopper around some.
