Title: Do you work in your workshop?

Mike - March 23, 2007 07:42 AM (GMT)
When I moved into this house, my first major project was to move some walls in the garage to make a nice little workshop area with a bench. But it never fails, when I have a project to work on it gets done in the house, right in my living room. I wind up crouched on the floor for hours, having to get up and walk out to the garage for tools every 5 minutes, and making a complete mess in the house. I just can't discipline myself enough to actually work on my projects out in the shop area.

Maybe if I put a tv out there that would help, but I doubt it.

Oh, and I also have a bad habit of staying up until 3 a.m. to finish whatever it is that I'm working on (like now, for example).

Right now, I don't have the luxury of a workshop, at least not what I would call a workshop. I'm in a 10x12 bedroom with new beige carpet on the floor. It's also the computer room/storage room. My girlfriend  won't let me put up wall mounted shelves, but I do have bakers rack style shelves that are holding the computer, computer related supplies, R/C building supplies, half of my hat collection, and other non-essential junk. I never had a TV in my workshop in the past, but I have one now, and I think I like the idea. I used to think I would be too distracted by the TV to get any work done on airplanes, but that's not the case. It usually becomes idle background noise until I'm at a point where I can stop and pay attention to it. For me, a radio is worse. I'll start dancin' and singin' and never get anything done!

Hey TJR, you were wanting a big J-3 Cub at one time.
Did you see this one for sale?
Cub For Sale - Click Here

Sounds like you might ought to run the idea past your GF as you might have to store it in the living room or kitchen.

Idea: Maybe you and Mike could work a deal to store it in his unused work shop.

I tried dancing to the radio one time, but "Talk Radio" just does not have much of a beat.

Talk Radio!!!!!!! :yickes: Having a woman around is more than enough talk for me! And please, no Rush Limbaugh! For now, the CUB is Ix-Nay! No room, and no $$!!!!!!

Icleaned my workbench in my shed for my first project this year and found the bench isn't flat anymore and The little space I did clear wasn't enough anyway.
So now I'm at the kitchen table and the living room floor also. Me and my wife feel your pain. :ouch: :boxers: :pirate: :fuming:

And please, no Rush Limbaugh!

Me neither, got tired of Rush because he is so predictable.
I do catch some of Savage, Finebloom for Bama sports, Coast to Coast AM for late night ghost & alien stuff, and Art Bell because he is very good and has something of interest most times.
Music - 99.9 Light Mix and some Country if they playing some of my fav artists and similar, Shinia Twain, Faith Hill, and Aww, What's his name, the fellow who bricked himself into the wrong side of basement in one of his music videos.

Back when I was doing lots of building and flying, I had a nice large workshop with work benches along walls, work tables, cabinets, pegboard, plenty room for two or three projects all at once. Even had a little frig, microwave, TV, VCR, radio, air conditioned.
Still, I had to work on the front two inches of work table and in my lap because rest of horizontal surfaces were covered with stuff.
That shop was definately slob land, but was fun.
